After being narrowly edged out for third place last week, Free Guy regained the number two spot in the top five. The action-comedy starring Ryan Reynolds saw a small 35 percent drop this weekend for a gross of $5.8 million. With this weekend’s haul the film has now crossed the $100 million threshold for a 24-day total of $102 million.
Debuting at third place was James Wan’s latest original film, Malignant. Up against Marvel’s juggernaut of a release, this new horror entry only managed to bring in a little under $5.6 million over the weekend.
Thanks to direct competition in the horror genre, Candyman sequel was edged out by the aformentioned Free Guy and fell to fourth place this weekend. The horror sequel brought in an additional $4.8 million this week for a 17-day total of just over $48 million.
Rounding out the top five was Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which continues to perform well. The action-adventure flick, now in its seventh week of release, pulled in a little over $2.4 million this past weekend to bring its four-week total to $109.9 million. ~Paolo Maquiraya
