Shania Twain to join American Idol

By Alexandra Heilbron on August 18, 2009 | 55 Comments

shania_twainShania Twain will appear as a guest judge on American Idol during the auditions held in Chicago from August 30 to 31. She’ll be the third singer to fill in for the absent Paula Abdul — Mary J. Blige sat in with full time judges Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi in Atlanta, while Victoria Beckham filled in during the Boston auditions earlier this month. It’s been rumored that Beckham, aka Posh Spice, may be offered a permanent stint as a judge on the show. However, TMZ reports that Paula Abdul wants to come back to American Idol and may be willing now to accept less than her $10 million per season asking price. She’s turned down an offer to appear as a judge on Dancing with the Stars, as well as a guest shot on Ugly Betty after the producers of the show leaked news of her possible appearance.

    say it ain’t so!!!!!
Paula may be “forced” to accept a paltry less than 10 mill???? how tragic…

  2. Shauna • August 18, 2009 @ 1:36 PM

i like shania shes pretty to. i thought they wanted katy perry to judge to?

  3. mandee • August 18, 2009 @ 4:00 PM

i wonder if katy would even do it? i think katy perry is amazing. and imagine, getting that much money to tell someone what you think of them? lmao, sign me up ! im honest !

  4. Jo-Anne • August 18, 2009 @ 4:39 PM

I like shania too, and think she’d be a great addition to the show…as well as Katy Perry

I wouldn’t have tuned in if Shania had gone on DWTS or Ugly Betty, both shows I don’t watch, but will look forward to Idol even more now…and hope and pray they’ll get the final right this time hahahaha!!!!

  5. Nancy • August 18, 2009 @ 6:35 PM

    I think you mean Paula.

Mandee: Me too, I’d sign up for $1 mil, hahaha.

  6. tributegirl • August 18, 2009 @ 7:14 PM

Katy Perry would be an interesting choice as judge, I wonder how she would do?

  7. April • August 19, 2009 @ 3:04 AM

I wonder why they would pick Kate when she is fairly new to the industry? But apparently this is the guest line up, Shania, Victoria, Kate (perhaps, not confirmed), and also…..an Amercian Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson (also, not confirmed yet) so IF Paula does not come back (and I really can’t blame her for fighting her salary as Simon is getting 45 million for 2 years and Ryan as host is getting 15 million a year,) so for her to ask for more than one million I think is fair, why should the guys make more then women, SEXIST!! I know Simon deserves more as he’s been in the business for a long time, but she deserves more than one when Ryan is going to get 15, WOW!!!! I know any of us would LOVE 1 million, but I can see her point (I KNOW JO, YOU DON’T LIKE HER,) and I’m talking about the principle here, does anyone agree? (God help me for asking that one, LOL!!)

  8. mandee • August 19, 2009 @ 11:34 AM

i agree that it sound sexist, i think your last comment wasnt very nice. i wonder why they would pay anyone so much money just to host a tv show or judge the people that come on? i think theres too many money hungry people out there and thats part of the reason the economy is so bad. if everyone that worked in the movie or music industry only made like one million a year, they would still be rich and there would be enough money left to save the world. after all, its only paper with numbers on it.

  9. gypsy • August 19, 2009 @ 12:05 PM

April she is asking for 10 million according to the article, and I personally think she should get it!!!!!I really don’t care if she’s off the wall, or stoned on pain med’s, she actually does know what the music industry is about, more so than Kara .I think she give’s the contestant’s more confidence in themselve’s even after a bad performance.I personally like the way she don’t take any crap from Simon, and given her medical history and being injured in a plane crash,i’d be taking the med’s her doctored ordered. She also teach’s the contestant’s dance move’s and does not just sit there and judge only their performance,as Randy and Simon do.She does far more than Kara who in my opinion is just a twit, who parrot’s Randy’s comment’s and doesn’t deserve to be in the judge’s seat at all ,in my opinion!!!!!!!(Grammer not included).

  10. tributegirl • August 19, 2009 @ 6:39 PM

gypsy, totally agreed. Actually, almost totally, I don’t think any of them are worth $10 million, I don’t think any entertainer is worth that, but if the others are getting these amounts, she definitely should as well, as she is “worth” much more than the others on there. Well, maybe Simon would be the exception!

  11. Carol • August 19, 2009 @ 8:34 PM

I like Shania, however towards the end of her last big album she looked somewhat trampy. When I first started listening to her she seemed so lady like (remember “dance with the one that brought you…still love that song”). But at the same time I don’t think she was trying to portray that image, I think she thought she was sexy, because her attitude didn’t seem slutty (not in my opinion). She has an awesome voice, and she is a pretty girl. She’s had a hard start in life and I think she worked hard and deserves these opportunities.

  12. Jo-Anne • August 19, 2009 @ 10:41 PM

carol, did she look as trampy as the male stripper actor you’re wanting to grab a front row seat to oggle?

  13. April • August 20, 2009 @ 2:37 AM

    Gypsy,

Your post on August 19, 2009 12:05 PM

I know what Paula was asking for, I’m all for her and everything about her, Perhaps if you went to the Paula blog and read all my blogs about the subject I have posted, you would understand why I like her and why I understand what she is going through. I’ve NEVER liked Kara ( and wish she was not on the show) and was embarrassed by her song that the Idol had to sing and have echoed everything you’ve said, so please go to the other site and read the posts as we are in agreeance on this subject!!

  14. mandee • August 20, 2009 @ 1:16 PM

gypsy, watch out honey. soon april is going to freak out because you “misunderstood” her. she sure is a headcase. dont believe me? check the paula article.

  15. Carol • August 20, 2009 @ 6:38 PM

Jo-Anne, not sure why you would question, but who cares. He does not look trampy and most people would get the humor of it…She did look trampy in some of her videos, case closed (if you’ll let it be). I’m sure you like trampy.

  16. Jo-Anne • August 20, 2009 @ 7:02 PM

    who cares? obviously….you
    why answer if not?

what humour? where was the joke? explain….I must have missed it

so, you comment and “case closed” should I or anyone decide to add a comment? and then follow it up with the ridiculously immature “I’m sure you like trampy”??

carry on, carol, drooling over wee boys….case closed…

  17. Nancy • August 20, 2009 @ 7:09 PM

“wee boys”? Well, I guess to someone of your age Jo-WAnne, a guy in his twenties would be a “wee boy”, hahaha.

Carol: I understand what you are saying and I also think a strip club is the right place for “trampy” clothes peeling not on music videos which any child can watch.

  18. Nancy • August 20, 2009 @ 7:11 PM

Oh, and Jo-WAnne’s new bff April, is the “QUEEN” of calling “case closed”…as she does it to mandee all the time.

  19. Carol • August 20, 2009 @ 7:22 PM

Jo-Ann, I’ve barely been on here lately and you just pick. Why is that? Just because I refuse to kiss your *ss like and you can’t handle it. Nancy, I think it is not Queen, but rather “drag queen”. You saw what she said her dr asked her…ROFLMAO

    BAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Jo-ann, you have no humor, you are stuffy, pretty much a loser because if people differ from your opinion you can’t respect it. Case Closed!

  20. The Hacker • August 20, 2009 @ 9:34 PM

I saw the joke, and it was pretty funny! I bet demigod got it too!

  21. Jo-Anne • August 22, 2009 @ 2:33 PM

    crol,
definition of “loser”….doesn’t fall far from your above post…

“middle aged woman drools over wee boys at strip joint whilst slobbering BAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”……

  22. Jo-Anne • August 22, 2009 @ 4:54 PM

oh, stop shamelessly promoting your “Nance’s Palace” joint….

  23. Jo-Anne • August 23, 2009 @ 7:59 AM

    pathetic, nance, just pathetic…
    weekend at the cottage again?

  24. moondog • August 23, 2009 @ 1:39 PM

    just u & yours

  25. tributegirl • August 23, 2009 @ 7:49 PM

LOL! So, anyway, you were at the cottage for 2 weeks? Did you take the kids?

  26. Nancy • August 23, 2009 @ 10:05 PM

Tributegirl: My kids would never let me go without them! Not that I would because there’s no power or anything so it would be pretty boring without them. One of the reasons why I bought this particular cottage is because of the fact that it doesn’t have the luxuries of home. When we go there it is to completely relax and have fun! And that is what we did!

  27. tributegirl • August 24, 2009 @ 9:25 AM

That’s awesome, I don’t have a cottage, but hope to some day. I can already envision it, on a lake of course, I love the water. I would like it to have electric (or at least a generator) and running water, but nothing else, not even a phone (I hate the phone!). Right now we are in the market for a camper and a pool, but I want to sell the old pool first.

  28. Nancy • August 24, 2009 @ 1:49 PM

I guess my answer should have actually been, “What cottage?” Hahaha.

  29. April • August 24, 2009 @ 4:00 PM

    Me too tribute girl,

Always LOVED camping, but had to stop after my 4 back surgeries as it’s too hard to bend in and out of our tent, so we really want to buy a tent trailer (I think that is what it’s called, the one that pops up into a HUGE tent with 2 huge beds on each side?) or a small camper, either way, since I grew up at our cottage and spent all summers and winter weekends skiing at ours in Mont. Tremblant, I really miss the country and am a country girl at heart!! I would LOVE to retire to a place on a lake, that would be my dream for sure.

When I was REALLY young, a group of my family and friends built a HUGE log cabin with NO electricity and there were bunk beds and a nice big loft and one HUGE open living room with a fireplace and a huge kicthen and we had deer come up and feed righ in front of the door and my Dad caught a small red fox and HUGE turtle and I saw all of this on home movies as well, brought it all back and it was my favourite place to go to, BUT way far north, dirt roads for miles and so peaceful as no phones, TV etc. Gotta love it!! Even had a nice lake (but it had lots of leeches in a corner of it), which got a hold of my sisters one day as we were all sitting around the fireplace and they felt something and my Mom noticed them all over their backs, so she sprinkled salt on them and they shriveled up and fell off!! YUCH!! We had a generator (I think as we had a fridge, so that is the only way everything could have stayed cold) as we always had lanterns to go out to the outhouse with!! Very primitive, but the best experience when I was a wee one!!

  30. Carol • August 25, 2009 @ 8:23 PM

I swear Joanne works for Tribute…is this why her whining doesn’t get deleted and mine does? Anyway…

AhhhI see the know-it-all fairy has visited us again.

Jnn (I guess we dont use vowels anymore), you are a loser, very pathetic in your views of others and their opinions.

I’m sure you are jealous that Nancy picked me and not you…poor wttl grl (oh no…I’m spelling like you now!)

  31. Carol • August 25, 2009 @ 9:23 PM

I know, but doesn’t it seem weird? Maybe she does work for tribute..wouldn’t that be a b*tch?

  32. Nancy • August 25, 2009 @ 9:40 PM

Hahaha, she could only DREAM of being qualified enough to work for Tribute! LMAO! 😀

  33. moondog • August 25, 2009 @ 10:00 PM

    hers get deleted 2

  34. April • August 26, 2009 @ 3:08 AM

    moondog,

Nancy meant TRIBUTE as in the website you are NOW attempting to write on, NOT tribute girl, LMAO!!

  35. tributegirl • August 26, 2009 @ 9:50 AM

    LMAO!!!!

  36. gypsy • August 26, 2009 @ 4:51 PM

  39. Nancy • August 26, 2009 @ 10:34 PM

Oh…I giggled my @$$ off reading these last few comments!

  40. demigod • August 27, 2009 @ 3:11 AM

    Nancy on August 26, 2009 6:33 PM

This is the reason Tribute is muzzling you. You’re just crass..on and on and on..

  41. April • August 28, 2009 @ 3:02 AM

    demigod,

Is it me, or are you referring to a post from Nancy that I cannot find on here? I do not see anything she posted at 6:33 pm? What did she say for you to respond like that, just curious? Have you gone out and rented or bought the book yet (Old Man and the Sea)?

  42. demigod • August 28, 2009 @ 4:46 PM

April, Tribute removed that post. It was another tasteless remark by Nance that I don’t care to repeat.

    I will..promise.

  43. April • August 29, 2009 @ 3:14 AM

    Wow demigod,

She must have really SWORE or something like that for them to have deleted it, am I right in assuming that much?

I’ll hold you to that promise!!

  44. Jo-Anne • August 29, 2009 @ 1:34 PM

you know, april, the usual “Nancy Mommy Setting Good Example Talk”….

  45. tributegirl • August 29, 2009 @ 1:54 PM

So much for not bringing people’s kids into things.

  46. Jo-Anne • August 29, 2009 @ 6:05 PM

so much for “not caring” what my responses are…

  47. Nancy • August 30, 2009 @ 12:44 AM

Check out the last comments on the Anne Heche article.

  48. tributegirl • August 30, 2009 @ 11:52 AM

    Jo-Anne on August 29, 2009 6:05 PM

That makes no sense. Do you make things up as you go along?

  49. Jo-Anne • August 30, 2009 @ 1:01 PM

funny, I was going to ask you same thing tg….

“but whatever, I really dont care, I was just wondering.” your words with reference to my comments on earlier article…

I’ll tell you what doesn’t make sense…you always professing you don’t care what I say…

    busted

  50. Jo-Anne • August 30, 2009 @ 7:59 PM

when did I profess I didn’t care about you, nance?

your uncouth remarks serve as a daily reminder to me how important manners are….and what happens when one is devoid of such…

p.s. you’re still hanging ever so tightly onto that W-A-H you incorporated into my name haha….

  51. Nancy • August 30, 2009 @ 8:15 PM

Actually, it’s “WA” and, you’ve professed that several times over the course of the past year or so. See, there you go thinking now that you have better manners than me. Reality check….YOU DON’T! You are NO BETTER than anyone else. Why are you so jealous of me, Jo-WAnne?

  52. Jo-Anne • August 31, 2009 @ 8:38 AM

    hmmm…let me see…maybe because you have…oh,you don’t have that…but you have….oh, not that either…maybe it’s…no, nothing there…well, perhaps it’s because…sorry, big zero there too…

  53. Nancy • August 31, 2009 @ 6:49 PM

Hahahaha…how the hell would YOU know what I have and don’t have? There is one thing on here that everyone, including you, knows that I have and I think that is the main thing that you don’t like…independence. Something you could only dream of having!

  54. Nancy • August 31, 2009 @ 6:49 PM

    Oh…and youth (no wrinkles! Hahahaha).

  55. tributegirl • August 31, 2009 @ 8:13 PM

    Jo-Anne on August 30, 2009 1:01 PM
That quotation is not in reference to YOUR comments, it was in reference to April’s comment, not everything is about you, you know. So, busted? As if.
