Sharon Stone offends China

While being interviewed by a Chinese media outlet at the Cannes Film Festival, Sharon Stone blamed the recent earthquake that killed more than 67,000 Chinese people on “karma,” citing China’s treatment of Tibetans. She said, “All these earthquakes and stuff happened and I thought, ‘Is that karma?’ When you are not nice, bad things happen to you. I’m not happy about how the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. They’re not being very nice to the Dalai Lama, who’s a good friend of mine.” In response, Ng See-Yuen, founder of one of China’s biggest cinema chains, called Stone’s comments “inappropriate” and says his theaters will no longer screen her movies. Stone has three films scheduled to be released in the next 12 months.
