The time has gone when Shia LaBeouf was a cute kid on Disney’s Even Stevens. Since then, his image has drastically changed. In 2008, he was in an accident due to drunk driving and in the same year, destroyed his relationship with director Steven Spielberg after publicly trashing his Indiana Jones sequel. In 2011, Shia was tossed out of bars on more than one occasion for fighting. But it doesn’t end there. The 26-year-old actor recently took things too far, when his drinking on his latest film Lawless almost caused co-star Mia Wasikowska to quit. In the movie, Shia plays a moonshine drinker in the Prohibition era. However, instead of acting drunk for the part, he began to actually get drunk.
In promoting the film, Shia told NY magazine, “I did it for the movie. I didn’t drink off set for no reason. I did it because, when I showed up on set the next day, my [bleep]ing eyes looked like this and my face… had that drunk bloat that I needed, that I couldn’t have if that wasn’t going on.” Unfortunately, his method acting was not appreciated by his co-star. His drunk, aggressive behavior alarmed Wasikowska so much that she made calls to her attorney and wanted to quit the film. Despite this, Lawless wrapped filming and is due to hit theaters August 29. ~Isabelle Khoo
