Shrek star may sue producers

Eric IdleFormer Monty Python star Eric Idle, who voices the character Merlin in Shrek the Third, says he’s considering suing the producers of the movie for stealing a Monty Python and the Holy Grail gag. Idle told Toronto radio station Mix 99.9 that he was furious when he saw the scene in which Prince Charming appears to be riding a horse. The camera pans out so the audience can see he’s sitting on a hobby horse while a servant bangs two coconut halves together to resemble hoof beats. The scene is identical to one in Holy Grail and in the current musical stage production, Spamalot. When Idle was asked if the copycat scene in Shrek the Third could be considered a tribute to the original, Idle told the radio station: “Do you think if I stole your wallet that’d be an homage to your money?”

All movies nowadays are ripping off old genuine ideas. It is such a shame that people in a legitmiate business will get rich from theft, and that’s what it is….theft.
Monty Python was one of the great humors and should be treated like a holy grail.
Hollywood really does need an overhaul……
