Simon Cowell supports Susan Boyle

Susan BoyleSusan Boyle, the 48-year-old church volunteer who rose to fame on Britain’s Got Talent, is the subject of controversy in Britain as people discuss how and why she ended up in a psychiatric hospital following the show’s finale. U.K. talk show host Sir Michael Parkinson wrote on his blog: “Susan Boyle’s reaction to not winning Britain’s Got Talent was predictable. To go from a quiet life as a church volunteer in a small town in Scotland to international fame would be tough for anyone to cope with. But to expect someone with her obvious personal problems to take it all in is ridiculous. For all the promises of fame and fortune one wonders if Susan Boyle is happier now than she was eight weeks ago?” Amanda Holden, one of the talent show’s judges, said on Larry King Live: “We are a very loyal show, we love Susan very much… She is getting the best support she could possibly be getting at the moment…I think she was just quite upset by all the exaggerated stories and falsehoods that were written about her.” As for Simon Cowell, he’s called her at the clinic to tell her “Whatever you decide, I will support you unconditionally.” Perez Hilton reports that not only is Cowell there to support Boyle emotionally, but he’s actually paying for her stay at the clinic out of his own pocket. Although Boyle’s brother says Susan is looking forward to starting her career, and has been invited to a July 4 celebration at the White House next month, Chris Thompson, chief medical officer of The Priory, told the Daily Mail that Susan may need to stay at the clinic for several weeks more. He says: “Any admission to a psychiatric hospital for a matter of days is, in my opinion, a failed admission because either it was unnecessary in the first place or the job hasn’t been done fully.” He added that anyone assessed under the Mental Health Act, as the singer has been, would be under “a degree of personal risk.”

“to expect someone with her obvious personal problems to take it all in is ridiculous”??? Obvious personal problems??? What the h*ll is that supposed to mean?
“people discuss how and why she ended up in a psychiatric hospital” What??? I think the entire world knows how and why she ended up there, the relentless attacks on her, if it is true that she was bullied as a child, she probably expected all that childishness to be overwith, but there it was again, bullying but stepped up a few degrees! She just wants to be treated right, and she wants to sing, she’s really not asking for much.

It goes to show that Simon Cowell is a softie at heart.

As for Susan Boyle, she’s talented and in spite of her looks, why couldn’t she simply get to record albums and still have a musical career? She’s not the only plain-looking person in the world who wound up being in the spotlight.

The falshehood and made up stories, that anybody who is in the public’s glare has to deal with that and it’s enough for anybody, even somebody who hasn’t lived a sheltered life, to deal with.

I read somewhere that some young teens in her town were calling her “crazy” and that they were even boasting about throwing eggs at her windows and if that’s true, it’s sad as they’re the crazies. She didn’t chose to be born slow. She has proven by staying and caring for her mother for so many years that she’s a far better individual than those petty teens.

I for one am tired with fake plastic so-called celebs whose only claims to fame is who they sleep with as opposed to what they did to get recognition. I wouldn’t have any problem with more “Susan Boyles” out there.

I really feel for her, and it is a shame she didn’t win after all that build-up. I very, very seldom buy cd’s since I don’t even listen to them, but I will buy hers, and I hope she titles it, Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover.

  6. Angela C. • June 5, 2009 @ 2:30 PM

Congratulations to Susan Boyle! She may not have won the show, but she has won a place in everyone’s heart around the world! BRAVO!!!!
I will be the first to buy her cd when it comes out!

Tamara McNeill on June 5, 2009 1:45 PM

I don’t think she was born slow, I think she was just born a little different, and has been picked on all her life for it.

Shaped by her experiences in life just like the rest of us.

  9. tributegirl • June 5, 2009 @ 5:11 PM

    Exactly.

  10. Carol • June 5, 2009 @ 8:26 PM

tributegirl, I think they partially mean financial as her obvious personal problems. She is 48 and unemployed. Not sure how the British medical system works, but I took it to mean that, at least in part.

As for Simon, he is actually more kind hearted than people give him credit for. He was on Oprah a couple years ago, there was a couple with a very sick child, the mom couldn’t work because of all the trips to/from the hospital, etc. Medical bills were piling up, the house was mortgaged to the max, and Simon, not knowing these people at all, paid their mortgage in full and I think assisted with their medical expenses. And when he was on the show, it wasn’t the Simon Cowell people love to hate. He does give back, I’ll give him credit there.

  11. Leona • June 5, 2009 @ 8:30 PM

I love Susan Boyle. She is an unbelievable singer. She should have won the show. You cannot compare dancing to singing. They should have made it a tie. Wake up and smell the roses Susan. With a voice like yours you will go a long way

  12. mandee • June 5, 2009 @ 9:21 PM

    Carol on June 5, 2009 8:26 PM

i didnt know that. maybe the reason he is so harsh on american idol (the only thing ive ever saw him on) is because its mainly teens and young adults that think they are better than everyone and think they are going to be the next best thing. he seems like a pretty intense guy, and thats a very nice thing to have done for those people. the more i hear about simon, the more i like him.

  13. Patricia • June 5, 2009 @ 10:57 PM

I think for Simon to be paying her bills is wonderful. He really does have a soft side and he seems to genuinely care about Susan. As for Susan, I pray that all will resolve itself and that she is able to move forward with a career if that is what she wants. It’s hard for anyone to all of a sudden become famous but someone like Susan, who had led a quiet and sheltered life and has a few issues it’d be almost impossible.

  14. Ena • June 5, 2009 @ 11:12 PM

Susan, follow your passion. You have a voice that soothes the soul.
    Follow you dream.
    Simon you are a sweetie.

  15. Minerva • June 6, 2009 @ 4:44 AM

It’s not always about looks, and Rita MacNeil sure proved that. She must be well over 300 lbs and not much better looking than Susan Boyle and yet Rita has made her way to stardom and fame purely through merit of her beautiful voice.
It’s also about choices. If Susan wants to sulk in a corner because rude comments have been made, or wallow in pity about how brutal the media has been, that is the choice she’s made and the hospital is the path she’s chosen for now. Maybe she’s not thick skinned enough for the spotlight. The media is never kind to celebs, so better she gets used to it, or just forget about the whole thing and go home, and put her couple of months of fame on the shelf among her other memoirs.

  16. Keith Hanson • June 6, 2009 @ 5:53 AM

You just do what you can girl. I live and love to sing also. I always sing from the heart and soul because I like to sing. God Bless you ( and your friends).

  17. tributegirl • June 6, 2009 @ 10:49 AM

She is now out of the hospital, and according to her brother, is doing much better.
Carol, I had taken it as a bit of a jab at her personality. I also saw that Oprah episode where Simon helped those people, apparently he is a real animal lover as well, and pumps a lot of money into animal welfare.
Minerva, yeah, I had forgotten about Rita MacNeil, but you’re right, Susan is a lot like her!

  18. Mimi Toronto • June 6, 2009 @ 10:55 AM

There are so many singers that entertain and belt out their songs just because of the joy of it. In certain cases they make zillions along the way. I admire the courage it takes to entertain millions, but with Susan Boyle there is something more to her singing. You can not help feeling something deep within when you hear her sing. She stirs up emotions just because the listener can fell that it is coming from such an honest place. That is why everybody fell in love with Susan Boyle.
Personally I do not believe people like her because she looks (supposedly) plain, that may be just a fabrication or misunderstanding by those that dont understand why they have this visceral reaction to her performances.
It is her life story that comes through when she sings the words: I had a dream my life would be so different from this hell I’m living. You just know that she knows what she is singing about and that nobody needed to coach her as to how to show connection to the song.
I believe that just like Paul Potts, Susan will have a career. And it will outlive that of the winners, Diversity. Somebody will explain to Susan that coming in 2nd was a blessing, I am sure of that. The lack of sleep and unkindness of a few is what got Susan unwell. But anyone looking at the various interviews she did before and just after the results will see what a decent and kind human being she showed to be. Enough with this nonsense about her being slow. Thats all balloney, she is just typically scottish, that means reserved and not used to having to take crap from people.

  19. Mimi Toronto • June 6, 2009 @ 11:06 AM

Oh, and Simon Cowell was just doing the right thing, he has a conscious and understands that he is at a position where he can and should help.
When he is supposedly mean on American Idol, he is just telling the truth as he sees it; there is nothing fake about that. If you search (Britains Got Talent 2009+audition) on http://www.youtube.com, you will see how kind Simon can be.
On the whole I do believe that the judges on Britains Got Talent could teach Paula, Randy and Kara (the most annoying one ever!) a tonne!

  20. Kim • June 6, 2009 @ 8:58 PM

Yeah, I was kind of surprised too that someone called her slow. She doesn’t seem slow at all, she was coming right back with zingers to everything the judges said, I thought she was pretty quick-witted.

  21. Minerva • June 6, 2009 @ 10:52 PM

Even if she does happen to be slow…….what about it??? We don’t need her to do mathematical equations for us, just awe us with that beautiful voice she has. I don’t know what “slow” has to do with anything. Even autistic people can have a beautiful gift of music. Who cares if they’re slow or whatever? And I do believe the Scottish culture is somewhat different from our own ways of talking and doing things which adds to her difference. The public can be very narrow brained and usually has a “mindset” of what other should and shouldn’t be like. Any difference, and they think it needs to be labelled, slotted, categorized. Why can’t people just sit back and enjoy what she has to give. Live and let live.
Mimi has a wonderful way of putting it all together into words….well said Mimi!!

  22. scotswop • June 8, 2009 @ 11:56 AM

Susan Boyle is like a lot of older Scottish people. I lived there for 13 years and her cheeky attitude reminds me of my own mother, who also had a few nervous problems. Susan as said before has a voice that we will remember long after Diversity is finished dancing. Most of the people who vote were young and of course they are going to choose that wonderful dance team. Give them their due, they were really good at what they did. Susan though as I said will last a lot longer with a CD. I’ll be buying one for me and some for gifts, so in the long run, she’ll be ahead. Maybe even in the end, she’ll get to sing for the Queen someday.

  23. tributegirl • June 8, 2009 @ 2:01 PM

I hope you are right, scotswop, because I think I read where singing for the Queen was her ultimate dream.

  24. Silvana • June 14, 2009 @ 4:55 AM

Hey there Tribute lady…you outta know about bullying no?? yes it’s me again Silvana…and yes Susan is a rare but special soul that regardless of what happens to her, she was fortunate to have touched many people around the world because of her special talents…you see having plain features unfortunately can be a bitch when we live in a very SHALLOW world that idolizes stars that have Angelina Jolie looks…but in reality the Susan Boyle’s of the world exist everywhere…and EVEN getting a MOMENT of that glory is I’m certain a CHERISHED moment of this wonderful woman’s life….regardless of winning any competitions…she I’m sure is a WINNER for many talented souls out there that are too SHY to even compete….at least she can be a ROLE MODEL to many that now can even DREAM that IMPOSSIBLE DREAM…so thanks Susan!! you made a difference….and I’m sure others will follow in your footsteps…to all the dreamers…don’t GIVE UP…

  25. tributegirl • June 15, 2009 @ 3:16 PM

    ^^^ wtf? ^^^

  26. Silvana • June 16, 2009 @ 9:26 AM

Hi tribute lady…love those mountains…that’s creative…keep it up..I know what your thinking…how do you read me??. I’m just an individual who is an optimist and loves when suprises like Susan happen…you begin to think YES…there is a GOD..people like her are special…and deserve a break!!…okay gotta run…have fun
    Cheers Silvana 🙂

  27. tributegirl • June 16, 2009 @ 10:00 AM

Uh, yeah, no kidding, I got all that about Susan, I’m just wondering about your “bullying” comment.

  28. Silvana • June 16, 2009 @ 8:47 PM

Bullying comment?? Geez are you still thinking about something you may of misread sometime ago…….you see that’s the problem with your memory Tribute lady…you like to harbour negative comments…you see that’s a sign of an individual who see’s themselves being better than anyone else…” what does Jesus say in the bible…forgive them for they do not know what they are doing…” essentially that’s what being HUMAN is all about…are YOU PERFECT??? do you slip up Tribute lady…or is that a special talent you have?? as far as I know everyone I have met in my life makes mistakes…or says something that may not have been understood properly…but again I leave that FOR YOU to THINK AND PONDER that thought???….Cheers for now….and I MEAN IT…okay…:)

  29. tributegirl • June 16, 2009 @ 9:24 PM

Something I may have misread some time ago?
NOOOO, something I have read RECENTLY, like on this very article, by “Silvana on June 14, 2009 4:55 AM”, you said “Hey there Tribute ladyyou outta know about bullying no??”.
That’s why I put those “mountains” (arrows) and said “wtf?”, I wanted to know what you meant by that.

And now I’m wondering about all your sarcastic remarks in your comment above this one.

  30. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 6:00 AM

Seriously Silvana, stop inhaling. You call tg a bully on the 14th and TWO DAYS LATER (I’m catering to your caps addiction now) you try to ridicule her for “misreading” something “some time ago”??? Then preach at her about feeling superior? And all this from the worldly jack-of-all-languages master of none.

  31. Nancy • June 17, 2009 @ 9:34 AM

Hmmmm…..I think Anon/Gina is using multiple names AGAIN! ‘Silvana’ being one of them!!

  32. tributegirl • June 17, 2009 @ 10:04 AM

Agreed, Nancy, there are a couple little similarities there that I’ve noticed.
Thanks for your comment, lily, it’s hard to believe that Silvana is real, she sounds so incredibly fake to me.

  33. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 6:25 PM

You know tg, I think your right. I’ve just been amazed at how deep into bizarro world she seems to be, but if its all an experiment in creativity for someone, I might just become a fan… I did used to adore The Twilight Zone lol!

  34. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 6:31 PM

Nancy its too hard for me to keep ignoring you, you just make too many comments I like. I really despised your line about Adam (and yes I read your post on the other site explaining it) but we don’t have to be bff’s to chat on-line. Besides, mandee’s escalating attacks are making me look for reasons to defend you. Thats just how my crazy head works.

  35. tributegirl • June 17, 2009 @ 7:24 PM

hahaha, welcome to bizzaro world, lily, that’s how it seems to work on here!
Yeah, there is definitely something fishy about this Silvana chick, something very wrong.

  36. tributegirl • June 17, 2009 @ 7:34 PM

and lily, you don’t have to agree with all of Nancy’s posts to get along with her, she & I get along great, but don’t agree on everything. We just don’t stoop to the level of fighting and insulting, we treat each other with respect, and try to stay out of each others fights, I’ve said before that she’s a big girl and can handle herself, I’ve said that about others too when asked why I’m not jumping in. I think it just comes down to respecting the fact that not every person is going to have the same opinion, and respecting their opinion as it is a very personal thing. You and I get along great, but I doubt we would agree on everything, we just respect each other, it works, that’s all it takes!

  37. tributegirl • June 17, 2009 @ 7:35 PM

But once in a while, I can’t help but jump in! 😛

  38. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 7:42 PM

Right on every point, tg, and sometimes I just have to stir the pot myself lol!

  39. Nancy • June 17, 2009 @ 7:49 PM

Thanks lily. I really didn’t mean what I said about Adam, I just tried to prove a point and I knew without a doubt that I would get jumped for the Adam comment so that is why I found an article right close to that one that had zero comments on it and posted my true feelings. I stand by the fact that it was really weird that mandee was so taken aback by the comments people made about Adam and yet never said a word about Susan Boyle being called a “nutcase”. Just doesn’t seem right to me but I know it is because it was Anon/Gina who said it. Now, this would be a totally different scenario had the comment calling Susan Boyle a “nutcase” had the name Nancy on it, right? Hahahaha. Personally though, I don’t agree with either people bashing Adam for being gay nor people bashing Susan for being “overwhelmed in the moment”. You and I have disagreed on a few articles and I’m sure you have seen disagreement with quite a few others. There is just one group I don’t get along with on ANY topic here and it has become a no-holds-barred with them. I’m sure I don’t have to mention their names. 😀

  40. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 8:22 PM

Happy to be back agreeing and/or disagreeing with you, Nancy. btw I agree with you totally on the “nutcase” thing cause I thought it was unfair and rude to Susan.

  41. tributegirl • June 18, 2009 @ 8:56 AM

It was totally unfair and rude to Susan, geez, she went from total anonymity to worldwide stardom and being hunted down by the paps in such an extremely short amount of time, anyone would be overwhelmed and exhausted and would reach a breaking point! So I thought “nutcase” was totally wrong.
Btw, has either Gina/Anon or Silvana been on in the last day or so? I haven’t noticed any posts from either of “them”, wondering if they might have gotten banned again.

  42. tributegirl • June 18, 2009 @ 8:57 AM

btw, I hope I didn’t ramble too much last night about respect, etc, I’ve had an extremely busy, back-breaking couple days, and I was pretty tired!

  43. lily • June 18, 2009 @ 7:38 PM

Hope your “back-breaking” times are over in time to enjoy a nice weekend, tributegirl!
btw I didn’t see any “rambling” at all..
