Simpsons take over weekend box office

The Simpsons MovieThe Simpsons Movie is the new leader at the box office, with weekend receipts totaling $71.9 million (all figures US), making it the most successful opening of a TV series-turned-movie ever. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry dropped to second place, taking in $19.1 million for a two-week total of $71.6 million. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also dropped a spot, winding up in third with $17 million, making its domestic total to date $241.8 million. Hairspray went from third to fourth with $15.5 million, while the new comedy, No Reservations, opened in fifth place, rounding out the box office with $11.7 million. Lindsay Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me wound up a disappointing ninth, taking in a paltry $3.4 million.

    I walked in hoping to see the “Full Monty Burns,” and left hanging my head in bitter disappointment. Maybe next time…

    MR. Finch probably didn’t understand any of the jokes, that’s why he was disappointed, the movie was fantastic with the whole theatre laughing out loud…!

    Agreed with Ransom, Mr. Finch was probably too dumb to understand the movie, the movie was far better than any other cartoon movie based on tv shows!

    Mr. Finch is quite correct — there was not enough Monty Burns in this.
