Great reviews and word of mouth pushed the inspirational drama The Help from second place to the top of the box office, taking in an additional $20.5 million and earning a Tribute viewer rating of 3.5 stars. After two weekends in the Number one position, Rise of the Planet of the Apes slipped to second, grossing an additional $16.3 million in earnings for a three-week total of $133.76 million. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World was the highest earning new release of the weekend, taking in $12.02 million and getting 3.8 stars at Tribute.ca. The remake Conan the Barbarian earned a disappointing $10 million, winding up in fourth place with 2.7 stars from Tribute.ca viewers. Rounding out the top five was another remake — Fright Night, starring Colin Farrell as a new vampire in the neighborhood — earning $8.3 million and 4 stars.

Dissapointing for Fright Night but I knew Conan would bomb. The average movie buff doesn’t care for this type of movie unless they’d find a way to make it original and different from the 70’s and 80’s versions that were popular back then. Moviegoers are far more difficult to impress today and this genre is pretty much dead.

I haven’t seen The Help yet, this is not the type of movie I see in theaters and will wait to see it on DVD but it sounds like a special m ovie.
