Star Trek‘s George Takei and boyfriend wed

George Takei, 71, and his longtime boyfriend, Brad Altman, 54, were married Sunday in a multicultural ceremony at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The ceremony was conducted by a Buddhist priest and the men, who both wore white dinner jackets and black pants, exchanged Native American wedding bands. The couple, who have been together for 21 years, wrote their own vows.  Takei played “Sulu” on the original 1966 Star Trek TV series. The best man and best lady were his co-stars, Walter Koenig (Chekov) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura). The series is being remade into a new movie, Star Trek, to be released in 2009. Although it’ll feature a new cast, Leonard Nimoy (the original Spock) will make a cameo.
