Star Wars spinoff movies confirmed

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back posterDisney, which bought the rights to Star Wars creator George Lucas’ company Lucasfilm last year, has confirmed that work has begun on at least three Star Wars spinoffs.

Chief executive Bob Iger said, “We are in fact working on a few stand-alone films. [Lawrence] Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So we plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII and IX over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too.”

Many are speculating that one of the films will center around the popular character Yoda. Kasdan wrote the screenplay for two of the early Star Wars films — Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.

This will be Kinberg’s first Star Wars film – he’s known for writing the screenplays for Mr. & Mrs. Smith and X-Men: The Last Stand.

As previously announced, J.J. Abrams will be directing the first film in the trilogy.

I agree….please don’t mess it up. This is changing the face of a historical franchise. J.J. is a great choice for fast pace action and character development but can he re-invigorate Star Wars? Especially since the master and inventor himself (Lucas) failed to breathe the same life into it after the original 3.

J.J. Abrams is a great director, not as good as Joss Whedon but I think he will do an outstanding job compared to the last three films. I do however think they should start off the next three with the killing of Jar Jar Binks!

How the f**k can JJ mess up Star Wars anymore than Lucas himself did with Episodes 1-3??? Get a grip people.
