Stars pay tribute to Natasha Richardson

Natasha Richardson 1963 to 2009Following her tragic, sudden death, Natasha Richardson‘s many friends and colleagues have been sharing their memories and condolences. Lindsay Lohan, who played Richardson’s daughter in 1998’s The Parent Trap, said, “She was a wonderful woman and actress and treated me like I was her own. I didn’t see much of her over the years, but I will miss her. My heart goes out to her family. This is a tragic loss.”

Kevin Spacey said, “There are no words to express how tragic Natasha Richardson’s untimely passing is for the theatre community.” Sam Mendes calls her a “one of a kind, a magnificent actress,” and Ken Russell spoke of her “ephemeral delicacy and intelligent beauty.” Both filmmakers have directed the actress.

She had developed close personal friendships with many people in the industry who were devastated by her death. Actress Blythe Danner, a friend of the family, said “I’m heartbroken. She was so kind to us when Bruce [Danner’s late husband] was ill. She’s so generous. I don’t think that I can handle it.” Joan Rivers shares a happy memory she had of Richardson and her husband, Liam Neeson. “We spent one amazing day on a boat with my whole family and she and Liam and the boys. They were such a family. I mean, [her death] just shouldn’t have happened.

Fellow Brit Alan Cumming, who earned a Tony Award opposite Richardson’s own award-winning performance in the Broadway revival of Cabaret wrote on his personal website, “I, like everyone, am totally devastated by the sudden death of Natasha Richardson. The strongest memory I have is of her laughter, her unmistakable throaty laugh. I think that’s a great way to remember someone. She was a brilliant actress… Liam and the boys and her whole family have lost an amazing woman. We all have. Goodbye, darling.”

Tribute‘s Bonnie Laufer says: “I first had the opportunity to meet Natasha Richardson just over 10 years ago when we spoke about working with a very young Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap.  Meeting a few years ago again to chat about her film Evening was a highlight for me. She was sweet, giving, a true professional — a real class act. It was a dream come true for her to work with her mother Vanessa Redgrave in Evening and told me that she hoped to do it again.  Sadly that will never happen. Losing Natasha Richardson is a huge loss for her loving and devoted family and for the world of acting.” Click here to watch Bonnie’s last interview with Natasha.

I know what a head injure does to a family and when it is an adult it is so hard to come back andthe recovery is slow and some causes you are never the same. I pray for the family and all the people she touched throughout her life as she 2was an amazing woman and will be sadly missed.
As for helmets in any kind of sports where you risk a head injury this should be manitroy to enforce the law that they must be woren.
I was a mother of a children who had a head injury one was a simple fall down stairs and hitting the back of his head and another time he was playing and landed face fisrt into a trees.
My daughter she was hit by a drunk driver when she was 2 and half years old and I witnessed what she had to go through just be be able to do and simple thing like raise your arm. We must protect the brain it is our computer for our body and exsistence.
My heart goes out to the family and I know that some good will come out of this and she will be remembered for changing a law and preventing this from happening to other families.

It is a tragedy to lose a loved one, even more so when that loved one still had a long life ahead of them. My condolences go out to Ms. Richardson’s family. May she rest in peace.

Though me and my family really didn’t know who she was (until we saw a list of her movies), her death deeply effected us. What a tragedy for someone like that who was lovely and full of life, to have it end so suddenly. Our condolences to Ms. Richardson’s family…

Totally agree, Ingela. Your comment was very well said.

Truly a tragedy…one that likely could have been avoided by wearing a helmet. However, accidents happen even when cautions are employed…

So sad to lose such a great person who seems to have such a lovely husband and family. My prayers are with them at this time of great grief.

I can truly sympathize with Ms. Richardson’s family and friends as my father died after blunt force trauma to his head resulting in a subdural haematoma. To lose a family member in the prime of life is so devastating and my heartfelt prayers and wishes are with Mr. Neeson, his sons, Ms. Redgrave and all their family and friends.

I am not really into the celeb buzz but I am a huge fan of Liam Neeson and didn’t know who his wife was until I saw the news reports! What a sad day for everyone that loved her and especially for her boys. My heart and prayers go out to this wonderful family!

I was in shock when I overheard on the radio that she had suffered a skiing accident here in Quebec and was taken to the Sacre Coeur Hospital. I prayed that she would recover as this was one actress you could tell just by looking at her that she wasn’t only beautiful on the outside but also inside. She and Liam Neeson seemed to be so in love and made the kind of couples we all envy as they seemed fated to grow old together.

I send my sympathies to Mr. Neeson, his sons, Vanessa Redgrave and the rest of Natasha’s family. She will be missed but we all can be thankful that in some way, for the short time she was here, she touched lifes, those of her closed loved ones and those of her fans.

brynna i agree with your comment, and everyones on this page. i wish that i was as gifted at writing about loss and condolences as you all are. although the only movie i ever saw with natasha in it was parent trap, and i can barely remember it, she sounds like she was a great person. she has a lot of people that love her and will miss her forever. even without knowing her, my heart aches for her family and friends, knowing that it is never easy to lose someone. her family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. i hope they all make it through this tough time and know that she probably wouldnt want them to be sad about her passing.

skye soo sorry to hear about your daughter. that must have been soo tough on you. how old is she now? and how is she doing?

The stars of Hollywood have gone dim tonight due to the loss of such a talented actress. Her family will never be the same and I respect their right to privacy. I just wish that her life had been long and joyful as she deserved and wish them well during this painful time. Just like Diana I worry for the children who will need help to get through the sorrow. Liam is true to her and an example of real men. We were blessed to have her.

What a very sad loss. I thoroughly enjoyed Natasha in such movies as Parent Trap, Maid in Manhattan, Blow Dry with Alan Rickman and Evening with her mother Vanessa. I just can’t stop thinking about her and what a tragic loss this has been. All my thoughts and prayers go out to Liam, their two boys and her whole family. She will be sorely missed.
