Steven Tyler signs on as Idol judge

An insider has confirmed that Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has signed on to be a judge on the 10th season of American Idol, even though Fox officially says “no comment,” according to E!online. Despite her diva demands, Jennifer Lopez is still a possibility as another judge, though it seems that Shania Twain, who was one of the favorite guest judges last season as well as a mentor, definitely has a shot at the position. Thankfully, his role as judge won’t require Tyler to do too much walking. Tuesday night, he fell off the stage during a concert at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre when guitarist Joe Perry backed into him and last August, he broke his collarbone and needed stitches when he fell off a stage (without help from anyone) at a concert in South Dakota. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Unsure of whether he’d suit the role or not, would have to see him in action…can say after Shania’s stint, think she’s way too soft for the spot…stakes are sky-high in this competition and I believe there’s no room for sugar coating, pat on the back crap…

I don’t like the choice…but, it’s a better gig for the guy….sitting in a chair is safer than falling off a stage again and again.

I think he’s a terrible choice. Why not pick a record producer like Simon? Why are there so many performers as judges?

it’s a “long shot”, Jodie….but maybe, just maybe cuz they understand/relate to the music industry???

Performers come at it from a performance standpoint, Joanne. Look at how lousy the judges who’ve been performers have been. Paul Abdul for example. Ellen was too sympathetic and didn’t have much to add. Because they’re been in that position, they feel for the person up there trying to perform. They can’t get past that. And performers don’t necessarily know what or who’s going to be a hit. That’s what producers are for. Simon Cowell knows his stuff. He’s led many performers to have successful careers. Randy Jackson knows who has what it takes and knows what to say to get them going in the right direction. At the rate AI is going, they’re going to have all performers sitting on that panel which will be incredibly confusing for the contestants because the feedback they’re going to get is not going to be as helpful as it would be if record execs were sitting there.

Steve Tyler should retire.. ke keeps falling off stages.. too many years of drugs, or alcohol or both.. get someone in there with some brain cells left.

American Idol is not like it use to be. In recent years they have been shuffling all types of entertainers for the position of idol judge in which most have little to no experience in the muscial field and hardly qualified to judge someone`s else musical talent. I wouldn`t be surprise if, very soon, they don`t put Micheal Jackson`s monkey `Bubble` as an idol judge.

My pick has always been David Frost. He’s one of the greatest talent discoverers of all time and has produced many successful musicians. Does anyone agree?

Also, he’s very good friends with Randy, which I think they would complement each other. As for the female pick, I’ve always loved Shania and I guess she would be the “softy” of the group, basically on the same page as Paula. She was good when she was a guest judge. She added a lot of humor.

It would be kinda funny to see how many kids turn into drug addicts or alcoholics or pregnet if Steven became a judge (being that he’s such a good role model LOL)

yes, I agree.. David Frost would be a good choice.. he has a good eye and ear for talent.

Steven Tyler’s mouth is large enough to swallow everybody here who’s left a negative opinion of him WHOLE. AT THE SAME GODDAMN TIME.
