Steven Tyler’s love-hate relationship with American Idol

Now that Steven Tyler is officially done with American Idol, he’s had time to reflect on the show. The 64-year-old singer admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone, “I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J.Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life.” Tyler reportedly earned $10 million per season and enjoyed the raised profile and fame the show gave him. However, the singer disliked the huge pressures placed on him to be mean to his contestants in order to fill the shoes of notorious judge Simon Cowell. “The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent,” he said. “They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don’t have that in me. That’s not what I’m about.” After announcing his decision to leave Idol last month, the singer also admitted the show was just a distraction to get space from his feuding Aerosmith band mates. Since then, the band has reunited and are scheduled to release their new album, Music From Another Dimension, in November. ~Isabelle Khoo
