A Superman costume worn by the late Christopher Reeve is scheduled to be auctioned off this month. It’s estimated to go for between $11,000 to $15,000 (all figures US). The costume will be part of the Bonhams and Goodman Collectables auction on Sunday May 24th at the Australian auction house’s Melbourne salerooms. The costume is described as “a leotard featuring the unmistakable red and yellow ‘S’ logo, a pair of red polyamid trunks and yellow vinyl belt,” noting that “this leotard was used to film flying scenes. Wires were inserted through the slits at the thigh in order to raise Christopher Reeve into the air.” The item comes with a certificate of authenticity from The Prop Store of London. Also being auctioned is a crew jacket from Superman II and a program for the premiere of Superman owned and autographed by Executive Producer Ilya Salkind.
