Surprise nominations from the SAG Awards

With the Oscars just around the corner, show biz afficionados are watching to see which movies and actors are nominated for other awards, such as the Golden Globes and People’s Choice, in order to get an idea of who will be up for the Academy Awards. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations are always a good indication and there were some surprises this year. Usually comedies don’t get noticed but Bridesmaids received two nods — one for Cast in a Motion Picture, which is SAG’s equivalent of a Best Picture category, and Supporting Female Actor for Melissa McCarthy. The Help, which has been receiving Oscar buzz since its release, led the nominations with four, including both Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer for Supporting Female; Cast in a Motion Picture and Lead Female Actor for Viola Davis. The silent film The Artist, which has already won Best Picture from the Boston Society of Film Critics, picked up three nods: Lead Male Actor (Jean DuJardin), Supporting Female Actor (Bérénce Bejo) and Cast in a Motion Picture. I am surprised Tree of Life didn’t get nominated….Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain should of been dominated as well for their role in the film.

Any movie starring Meryl Streep would be no contest.
