Quentin Tarantino knew about Weinstein’s behavior for decades

Quentin TarantinoTwo weeks after the first stories detailing Harvey Weinstein‘s behavior broke, Quentin Tarantino has admitted to having firsthand knowledge of some of the allegations against his longtime colleague for decades.

Since 1992, all of Tarantino’s films have been released by either Miramax, The Weinstein Company or Miramax’s Dimension Films.

In an interview with The New York Times, Tarantino admitted to knowing about Weinstein’s alleged misconduct since the mid ’90s.

“I knew enough to do more than I did,” Tarantino said. “It wasn’t secondhand. I knew he did a couple of these things.”

“I was shocked and appalled,” Tarantino said about the time his then-girlfriend Mira Sorvino told him about Weinstein’s behavior in 1995.

Sorvino told Tarantino that Weinstein had unwelcomely massaged her, chased her around a hotel room and showed up at her apartment in the middle of the night.

“I thought then, at the time, was that he was particularly hung up on Mira,” Tarantino said as an attempt to explain why he ignored the allegations and continued to work with Weinstein. “Because he was infatuated with her, he horribly crossed the line.”

Tarantino said he felt the problem was fixed because he thought his relationship with Sorvino meant that Weinstein would stop bothering her.

As the years passed, Tarantino heard more accounts from other actresses who had had to deal with Weinstein. After being told of another incident in which Weinstein made unwanted advances in a hotel room, Tarantino confronted Weinstein, which lead to what he described as a weak apology to the actress.

Tarantino was also aware of a settlement between Rose McGowan and Weinstein that resulted after a hotel room episode during the Sundance Film Festival. Tarantino went on to say he dismissed the multiple allegations he heard firsthand and the secondhand or thirdhand rumors heard throughout his decades in Hollywood as mild misbehavior, admitting, “Anything I say now will sound like a crappy excuse.”

“I wish I had taken responsibility for what I heard,” he added. “If I had done the work I should have done then, I would have had to not work with him.” Tarantino had only worked with Weinstein for three years or so before Sorvino confided in him, and he continued to be associated with Weinstein for the next 22 years.

Tarantino also issued a call to others who were made aware of Weinstein’s conduct, telling them not to be scared and not to just make statements but to acknowledge that there is something terribly wrong and “Vow to do better by our sisters.”

“Everyone who was close to Harvey had heard of at least one of those incidents… It was impossible they didn’t,” Tarantino said of the stories in the first few articles.

Tarantino also said that while he attempted to call Weinstein several times recently he got no reply and added that Weinstein needs to “face the music.” ~Hayley Michaud

The most telling statement is “If I had done the work I should have done then, I would have had to not work with him.” In other words, it would have impacted his career. So selfish. He didn’t even stand up for his own girlfriend, no wonder she left him. Real man protect those they love. And after, he just let her career go down a sinkhole, thanks to Weinstein. At least Brad Pitt told Weinstein off in a way that made sure his then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow’s career wasn’t affected in any way. Weinstein didn’t dare ruin Gwyneth’s career and he would have left Mira alone if Tarantino had handled it the way Pitt did.

It is very unfortunate we live in a Money-driven society so those who may be committing abuses against others who are afraid to fight back! Of course, now that one woman has broken her silence, many more have come forth to confirm Weinstein’s sick
behavior. He shoul be stripped of his wealth & should be incarcerated for many, many years. He is not entitled to his freedom in my opinion.

I don’t believe a word he says. He knew about it and did nothing. Why? Just look at his movies and how they promote violence against women.

Its amazing how money and fame seems to keep you out of trouble no matter how much you sexual assault women like its owed to your dumb ugly ass, just like Trump. They should cut both of the clowns balls off.

Tarantino’s films promote violence against women? Hardly. The majority of the violence in his films is inflicted on men. And depiction isn’t promotion. Buy some sense when you’re out shopping.

First Bill Cosby then Weinstein. Men with money and power to make or break someones career, it’s sickening. They should both be in jail. How can their spouses stay with them, do they really believe they are innocent or is the money too hard to give up!

What was Tarantino supposed to do? The incident he described, with Mira Sorvino, sounds highly inappropriate but not like rape. Weinstein seems to basically be admitting serial wildly-inappropriate behavior, but has explicitly denied that he ever raped anybody. Perhaps he did, and perhaps he will be convicted of that, but we cannot declare him guilty of that yet. But in terms of credible allegations, what were people other than the women he preyed upon supposed to do. I once worked in an industry where the saleswoman for a project I was working on was definitely the subject of unwanted attentions from the client. I don’t think she ever actually slept with him, but even if she had told me that she did, as long as it was not literal rape I would have done nothing, knowing that she was an adult making her own choices. If the object of unwanted attention and actions thinks it is a reportable crime, that is one thing, but a bystander?

IF Tarantino’s story is true then he did do something by dating Mira and hoped Harvey would back off which it seems he did. I guess Harvey doesn’t assault women in relationships? OR most likely, like Tarantino, they had a blossoming business forming and Tarantino didn’t want to rock the Weinstein boat and Weinstein didn’t want to hurt the new Holleywood Indy moneymaker from churning out hits for him and making millions. But Maybe subconciously Tarantino did ‘save’ one woman..in his head. I head about the Brad Pitt/Paltrow thing and ya kudos to Pitt. Didn’t hurt those stars’ careers.
Weinstein, if these allegations are true, yes seek help and retire. If there’s rape, then I hope someone retires your balls via castration.

Nobody seemed to care when the accusations came out against Woody Allen. First by Mia then later, her now adult daughter. Actually seemed to be a lot of contempt against them for again trying to speak out. Then, when the allegations against Bryan Singer happened, people actually gave pause. Up comes Bill Cosby and this seemed to be the tipping point. Men with money and power can’t hide any longer. I think we are going to see a lot more of these scandals surface. Lots of surprises in store.
