Taylor Swift sued for keeping cash on cancelled concert

Country/pop singer Taylor Swift is being sued for taking millions of dollars for doing nothing. She was supposed to headline the Capital Hoedown music festival in Ottawa last August, but when promoters were unable to put it all together, Swift’s management team kept the advance payment of $2.5 million. The star was paid to perform, which she did not, nor did she reschedule a new appearance. The domino effect of who owes whom began with disappointed ticket holders contacting a credit card payment company for refunds, who then filed a lawsuit with FIRE USA Inc. (a ticketing company based in Florida), who in turn is suing the singer for $1.8 million in refunds. The kicker—if Swift coughs up the money, she still walks away with an easy $700,000. On the bright side, Canada may get some recognition for screwing her over. In addition to her boyfriends of the past, the friendly country could be featured in her next big hit. ~Renita Naraine

HA! A song about Canada screwing her over? My money is that she’s going to ‘attempt’ a Canadian accent (aboot?) and probably say ‘Eh’ at the every sentence.

She’s only a year younger than Adele but she seems like such a kid.

This is somewhat misleading. Taylor swift’s company was paid the money in advance for her doing the show but also to use her images to promote it. Then capital hoedown was cancelled (nothing to do with Swift or any of the other performers). Its the organizer’s job to refund tickets, not the performers.

Man? What is with this girl these days?

I don’t think TSwift is personally responsible for this, oi. She was not personally paid by the ticket holders. The company was, who was given the ‘product,’ or the promise of a concert experience, by the organizers. It’s the organizers bad, really. They are the ones who didn’t keep up their end of the bargain. And ‘Canada’ did not screw her over.

I like this article. I like Canadian sticking up for ourselves. Don’t screw your fans over Swift. I like the funny comment at the end if we do get to be in her next song lol

This is not Taylor Swift at fault , it is the concert organizers. Not that I am a fan of Taylor Swift … just looking at the business details.

I’m a proud born and raised Albertan/Canadian, live in Calgary, and no one I know pronounces “about” as “aboot.” This must be an Eastern thing, perhaps in the Maritimes. I don’t use “eh” and rarely hear it. A woman who worked in our office at one time was from Newfoundland and used it constantly. It was very unprofessional.

As for Taylor Swift, I believe most or all of the money should be returned. Canadians will lose respect for her if she doesn’t.

Jax, I live in Eastern Canada (nfld) and you must have met one of the few Newfoundlanders who say this. I have heard no one here say “aboot” or “eh”… I thought it was a western Canada thing. We do have lots of colorful expressions and slang here… but “aboot” and “eh” are not among them.

Pay back the money, you are greedy as all Americans are, it’s always about me, me, me,

At least give the money to a charity, homeless shelter,

that girl has not talent either who would even look at her

    Get a life Loser!

Is it worth for her to keep this money since this will end up hurting her image. People will see her as a money loving entertainer while her fans are trying to seek their refund.
Considering how much money she already makes, she can easily make up for this lost money. However a tarnished image is very hard to recover from.

If you read the artile properly it is not Taylor Swifts fault that the show was canceled. She didnt cancel her appearance. the promoters were unable to put it all together, therefore shes entitled to keeping the money. Those are days that she could of used for touring somewhere else.

now she will have to go and breakup with her current victim to make up the money she lost
