It was a tough battle at the box office this past weekend as two wanna-be cops, five intergalactic Guardians, four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and an army of muscle men competed for the top spot. Since last weekend, the top two spots of the box office have remained static. The Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was yet again #1 in profits for its second week of release with $28 million domestic and stands at a Tribute user rating of 4.5 stars. Following close behind in second place is Disney/Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, which earned an additional $25 million for a cumulative revenue of $222 million.
The cop comedy, Let’s Be Cops, which earned $18 million and 4 Tribute stars, debuted in third place, one spot ahead of The Expendables 3, which opened with a favorable Tribute rating of 4.3 stars. Rounding out the box office in fifth place is The Giver, with a debut of $13 million. This adaptation of the acclaimed YA novel by Lois Lowry, starring Hollywood headliners Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, was voted 2.7 stars by Tribute users. ~Daniel Horowitz
