Texas Chainsaw slays the box office

The new horror movie Texas Chainsaw 3D knocked Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from its first place spot after three weeks at the top, taking in an estimated $23 million and earning 2.9 stars from Tribute.ca users, while The Hobbit earned an additional $17.5 million in third place and 3.9 out of a possible 5 stars. The spaghetti western Django Unchained, which stars Jamie Foxx as a rescued slave who tries to save his wife (Kerry Washington) from her captor (Leonardo DiCaprio), hung on to second place with $20.1 million and a 4.1 star rating. Not far behind was the critically-acclaimed film adaptation of the stage musical Les Misérables, in fourth with $16.1 million. It’s a popular pick with Tribute.ca users, who gave it an impressive 4.7 stars. Rounding out the top five was Parental Guidance, starring veteran actors Billy Crystal and Bette Midler as grandparents with the task of babysitting their rowdy grandkids. The comedy earned $10.1 million and 4.4 stars.
