The Avengers smashes box office records

It turns out five superheroes are always better than just one. Not surprisingly, The Avengers destroyed its competition at the box office this weekend, debuting in the top spot with an incredible $200.3 million. It set the new record for the best opening weekend in Hollywood history, a title previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which earned $169.2 million its debut weekend. The Avengers is also the biggest opening weekend film of all time in Canada with $15.5 million. Tribute.ca viewers are giving it 4.6 out of a possible 5 stars. After two weekends at number one, the comedy Think Like a Man, based on the bestselling self-help book by funnyman Steve Harvey, dropped down to second with an additional $8 million and 4.3 stars. Its total take is $73 million, making it the highest-grossing April 2012 release. The Hunger Games is holding on strong in third place for its seventh weekend with $5.7 million and a 3.5 star rating. But it had some some close competition. Not too far behind in fourth is Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling in The Lucky One, raking in $5.5 million and 4.1 stars. Rounding out the top 5 is the animated family film The Pirates! Band of Misfits, which earned $5.4 million and 3.7 stars at Tribute.ca.

Saw it. Amazing movie! If you want to be entertained and you want your brain to be overloaded with awesomeness, go see it. I even go as far as to recommend 3D. My eyes were only affected by one scene which lasted for 3 seconds, but overall the 3D was worth it.

Glad to say I contributed to the weekend box office numbers. It really is a good super hero action movie. Lots of action, good acting, good dialogue, quite a number of good laughs, and the movie has proper pacing, entertaining from start to finish. Saw it in 3D, but I don’t think I would have missed much if I saw it in 2D.

You can’t set a record with different criteria. The longest bridge in the world is based on a standard unit of measurement. The standard unit for movies is tickets sold. If you charge $3 extra for a 3-D movie it will make more than 33% more than a movie not 3-D that sold the same number of tickets.

I saw it. And I really didn’t see what all this fuss is over. Yeah it was a good movie but not as great as everyone is playing it up to be that’s for sure!!

Ben, maybe you walked into the wrong theatre and saw the Lucky One by accident instead?

Jack, all money is green – should they start factoring in theatrical re-releases, inflation, the economy, etc?

Anyway, best superhero movie I’ve ever seen. Thank you Joss Whedon.

Now if they could bring Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter into one movie, that would beat the box office record.
