The Avengers smashes box office records

It turns out five superheroes are always better than just one. Not surprisingly, The Avengers destroyed its competition at the box office this weekend, debuting in the top spot with an incredible $200.3 million. It set the new record for the best opening weekend in Hollywood history, a title previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which earned $169.2 million its debut weekend. The Avengers is also the biggest opening weekend film of all time in Canada with $15.5 million. Tribute.ca viewers are giving it 4.6 out of a possible 5 stars. After two weekends at number one, the comedy Think Like a Man, based on the bestselling self-help book by funnyman Steve Harvey, dropped down to second with an additional $8 million and 4.3 stars. Its total take is $73 million, making it the highest-grossing April 2012 release. The Hunger Games is holding on strong in third place for its seventh weekend with $5.7 million and a 3.5 star rating. But it had some some close competition. Not too far behind in fourth is Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling in The Lucky One, raking in $5.5 million and 4.1 stars. Rounding out the top 5 is the animated family film The Pirates! Band of Misfits, which earned $5.4 million and 3.7 stars at Tribute.ca.
