The Avengers to trump Titanic?

Superheroes are making a comeback this year with Marvel’s The Avengers. Since its May 4 release, the film starring Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr. has grossed $529.7 million domestically to date. Directed by Joss Whedon, the Marvel Studios picture is expected to surpass filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008) as the third most profitable film by the weekend. James Cameron’s epic collection of movies hold the top spots — Titanic (1997) is No. 2 on the list with $658.6 million and his later film Avatar (2009) is the ultimate titleholder with $760.5 million. “I’m not sure I’ve seen people talk about a movie the way they did like this,” said Paul Dergarabedian of Hollywood.com. “It was an old-fashioned cinema experience: popcorn, larger than life, fun. This may be the greatest word-of-mouth movie ever.” The Avengers has also been dominating international markets, making $1.31 billion worldwide in profits. ~Graeme Mollison

This movie really lived up to its hype. A great modern fisticuffs and than some.

definitley a great movie, I wasn’t expecting much despite being a Joss Whedon fan. Great movie and it’s time for Cameron to be 2nd place for once. Maybe good comic book movies have finally returned.
