Supernatural horror flick The Conjuring crept up the weekend box office and took the number one spot, knocking over animated sequel Despicable Me 2, which had a strong two-week reign at the top spot. The Warner Bros. film, with a Tribute rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, is the reigning box office champ, bringing in an estimated $41.9 million in its opening weekend. Despicable Me 2 continues to squeak at the box office, taking the second spot with $24.9 million. Animated film Turbo raced to third place with a $21.3 million after its weekend debut. Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups 2, which beat newcomer RED 2 by taking the fourth spot in its second week, earned $19.9 million over the weekend. RED 2, starring Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren kicked its way to the fifth spot at the box office, earning $18 million.
Rounding out the top ten films are big-budgeted flick Pacific Rim, newcomer R.I.P.D. which stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, comedy flick The Heat, Brad Pitt’s World War Z and animated sequel Monsters University.
