The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tops weekend box office

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took the weekend box office by storm and debuted at number one with an impressive $161.13 million. The second installment of the Suzanne Collins sci-fi series stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth and earned a Tribute rating of 3.7 stars. Dropping to second was Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, bringing in $14.12 million, which pushed the total gross earnings to $167.84 million. Dropping less than half a point, the superhero sequel earned a Tribute rating of 4.1 stars. Taking third place was The Best Man Holiday with $12.52 million and a high Tribute rating of 4.4 stars. Newcomer Delivery Man took the fourth spot at the box office, bringing in $8.22 million and a Tribute rating of 3 stars. Dropping to fifth was the Thanksgiving comedy Free Birds. The animated flick brought in $5.3 million and earned a Tribute rating of 3.7 stars.

Rounding out the top ten were Last Vegas, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and Dallas Buyers Club. ~Brie Davis

    Waaaay better than the first one. This one I actually enjoyed. I hated the first one – children killing each other is not entertainment. This one is adults getting together to thwart the cruel government. That is something I can totally sympathize with.
