The LEGO movie takes over top spot at weekend box office

The LEGO movie debuted at the top of the weekend box office, with a 3.5 star rating at Tribute.ca and an estimated $69.1 million in box office receipts. Another new movie, The Monuments Men, debuted in second place with 3.8 stars at Tribute.ca. Starring and directed by George Clooney, the movie also stars Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin and John Goodman as men who try to save art during WWII. It opened with box office receipts of $22.7 million. Last weekend’s top movie, Ride Along, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, dropped to second place, earning an additional $9.4 million and getting a 3.5 star rating from Tribute readers. The incredibly popular animated film Frozen dropped back down to fourth place, earning $6.9 million over the weekend for a whopping grand total of $368.7 million. Rounding out the top five was the raunchy comedy That Awkward Moment, starring Zac Efron, dropping from third place to take in an extra $5.5 million. Tribute readers gave it 3.4 stars.

Included in the Top 10 were Mark Wahlberg’s Lone Survivor, Vampire Academy, The Nut JobJack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Labor Day. For full box office results, click here.
