The Monkees reuniting for tour

Three members of The Monkees have confirmed they’re planning to tour this summer. Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork announced their plans this week for a UK concert tour. The Monkees were formed in 1966 to play a band of aspiring young musicians in a sitcom. They appeared in teen magazines and were initially put down for being bubblegum pop, but earned respect when they began writing their own music and when in 1967, they outsold the Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Mike Nesmith, the fourth member of the group, is rumored to be in negotiations to join the Monkees at the Royal Albert Hall for a May 19th concert. A close friend said: “Mike loves the idea of joining his old friends on stage one more time. He hasn’t signed a contract because he wants it to be a complete surprise.” Lead singer Davy Jones told BBC Radio 5: “The records are being played all the time. The fans are still there… So why not? We have a great time when we’re together and we enjoy each other’s company on the road and it’s a fun time.” The reunion tour is set to run from May 12 to May 25.

I loved that show when I was a kid. Those guys were so funny. And their songs were good, I still hear them on the radio, I just heard their version of Daydream Believer the other day actually.

    I wish they’d tour here!

Amen, Amanda. “Goin Down” is still one of the greatest songs I have ever heard, and so many of their lesser-known songs are brilliant. They were truly ahead of their time and I would give anything to get to a Monkees reunion.

    Why not North America though?

Yeh, it’s a shame their not planning to tour Canada at all. I was a big fan–watched their show weekly, when I was about 12-14, and had a real crush on Davey& Mickey! They were pretty funny–LOVED their show! Wonder what they’d be like today?

I had the pleasure to see Mickey Dolenz sing at Busch Gardens 2 years ago. Boy brought back fun memories of the innocent songs of years gone by. Perhaps they will travel out to Vancouver in August for the P.N.E. (if they change their minds).

I loved the Monkees as a kid, and still have some of their music on my Ipod! My sister had a crush on Micky and I had one on Davy and oddly enough, married men that looked like them :o) Too bad they are not touring in Canada, that would be fun to see after 40 years!

They got together about 15-17 years ago and appeared after a baseball game in Edmonton. They arrived in separate limo’s about 5 minutes before they were scheduled to perform, came out and performed 2 songs, and then left the stage claiming that the 3 clouds in the sky meant a storm was coming. For the 15 or so minutes they were on the stage they appeared to be intoxicated and made rude comments about the city, the country, and the audience. it was obvious they were only doing the show because they were getting paid not because they cared one whit about the audience. I would never go see them again.
