The Selection lives on at The CW

Fans shouldn’t mourn the loss of The Selection just yet. The CW has announced they’re redeveloping the series for their 2012-2013 television season. The futuristic television pilot that closely resembles The Hunger Games was seen as a sure thing to be ordered by the teen-targeting network but all hope was lost last week when they ordered five other dramas instead. However, at the CW upfronts ceremony in New York City earlier this week, president Mark Pedowitz announced that the project was being redeveloped, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re going to go back in fast and redevelop it and see if we can get it up. I’m a big, big fan of the genre.” It’s unknown what changes the network wants made but rumors point to everything from script rewrites to casting changes. It’s unknown if Friday Night Lights actress Aimee Teegarden will stay on-board as the show’s heroine. Based on the book series by Kiera Cass, The Selection is set 300 years in the future and focuses on America Singer, a poor young girl who’s chosen by a lottery to compete in a Bachelor-like competition to marry a prince and become the queen of a war-torn nation. ~Kyle Sharp
