Third Transformers release date causes problem

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 18, 2009 | 2 Comments

Michael BayParamount and Dreamworks have announced that a third Transformers movie will be released in July of 2011, according to Variety. This was news to Transformers director Michael Bay, who is currently working on post-production for the second film of the series, Revenge of the Fallen. He said on his website the studios had made a mistake with the date of the third film. “I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 — they asked me on the phone — I said yes to July 4 — but for 2012 — whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.” Bay’s current robot-fighting effort, Revenge of the Fallen, will be released June 24. Featuring original stars Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf, it continues the battle between the two robot groups. Bay says that in the second film, the robots have more personality and express more human emotion. Will dedicated Transformers fans be satisfied with another director taking on the role for the third film, when Bay obviously knows these robots so well? It remains to be seen whether the studios will remain loyal to their set release date, or if they will push it back to accommodate Bay’s schedule and keep him as director.

Well, I’m a Transformers fan myself and I personally would rather wait the extra year and give the guy his well earned time off. As long as the movie is awesome, the fans will come to see it no matter the release date.
