Thor: The Dark World trumps weekend box office

Smashing competition this weekend was newcomer Thor: The Dark World. The film drove in a mighty $86.1 million, securing the top spot at the weekend box office. The superhero sequel, starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, earned brownie points with Tribute fans, gaining a rating of 4.3 stars. In its third week running, Paramount’s Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa garnered $11.3 million and Tribute rating of 3.7 stars, retaining second place at the box office. The animated film Free Birds took the third spot at the box office, bringing in $11.8 million and a Tribute rating of 3.6 stars. In fourth was Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline. The film generated $11.1 million and a high Tribute rating of 4.2 stars. Dropping to fifth place was last week’s top film, Ender’s Game. The film earned an additional $10.25 million and a Tribute rating of 3.86 stars.

Rounding out the top ten are Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, About Time and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.
