TIFF opens with Darwin biopic; who’s in town?

The Toronto Film Festival starts today, and tonight’s gala presentation at the Roy Thomson Hall is Creation, starring married couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as Charles and Emma Darwin. It follows Darwin’s struggle to get people to accept his theory of evolution. Also screening tonight is Broken Embraces, starring Penélope Cruz at the Visa Screening Room (9:30 p.m.) and the thriller Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Fox, screening at Ryerson (11:59 p.m.), just a week before it opens in theaters. At noon you can catch the documentary Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man for free at Dundas Square. Celebrities who’ve already been spotted in town include Nick Jonas posing for photographs with fans, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green strolling hand in hand through Yorkville, and George Clooney eating sushi at Yamato in Yorkville.
