Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 2Director Sam Raimi has decided to pull out of Spider-Man 4, due to time constraints and creative difficulties. Tobey Maguire has also officially stated that he will not return to the franchise. It’s expected that Kirsten Dunst will not return either. Sony Pictures confirmed yesterday that production has not yet begun on the movie, which was scheduled to open in theaters in 2011. They’ve now decided to revamp the new movie, and release it in 2012 with an all-new cast and director and a script that portrays Peter Parker still in high school. ~Alexandra Heilbron

To be honest i can’t say im not happy. Though i enjoyed the movies, i always felt that they did not really capture the essence of Spider-man/Peter Parker. The third movie was pretty disappointing and the fact that Mary Jane gets kidnapped at the end of each movie just makes her seem like a Victim and not the “I am Women here me roar” that she was supposed to represent. I hope this reboot will do for “Spider-man” what “Batman Begins” did for Batman. Lets hope we get cocky/genius Spider-man we all loved and grew up with.

P.S. I know that Peter Parker has got his problems but if i have to see him cry as much as he did in the last 3 movies, I’m going to cry myself….

its about time they did such a bad job on venom and the other characters that hopefully this time will save the series

haha Joshua very entertaining and good comments!

I agree re the third installment as well, didn’t much care for it. I thoroughly enjoyed the original movie and the 2nd was pretty good too. I am not a Kirsten Dunst fan, and even putting that aside, felt she didn’t give the role much substance…

tobey getting a lot of impressive reviews since “Brothers” came out and would imagine many more substantial roles get thrown his way anyhow…

if they are gonna get a new cast and not have the same people in it. (Tobey, Kirsten) Nobody will want to see it, honestly it’s gonna be strange not having Tobey Maguire as siderman, and it will be weird to have a different person as spiderman, I know for a fact I won;t like the movie.

So, I guess nobody will want to watch Batman Begins and The Dark Knight when it comes out because it’s Christian Bale and not Michael Keaton. *sarcasm*

Seriously though, the ONLY way I could’ve seen them salvaging what they did with Spiderman 3 is to kill off Mary Jane.

    I agree with Ally.
Sure I felt the third movie to sort of throw off the original good vibes of the first two movies, but with different actors, I think a lot of people will be put off.

And about the comment about the changing roles of batman. It isn’t a good comparison because there has been way more actors that have played batman in different series of movies and they’re also much farther apart in years then the change is for the spiderman movies.

they should wait at least 5 or 10 years before they remake spiderman, it’s still to fresh in our minds it’s still to current. I for one am not looking forwards to this at all, especially that by then it will probably be disany making the movie!

Sony is so stupid, they ruined part 3 with their request to insert Venom into a movie that did not fit and now they are arguing with Rami again. I hope Sony goes broke and learns a lesson for butting their nose into things that they have no idea, let the creative people do their work and just pay the bills. Who is going to be Peter Parker/Spider Man now? Michael Cera? Jake G? LOL I hope the next movie is good or else some execs are going to get fired. I would have loved to see a part 4 with Rami and Tobey/cast in it, but no, we have to settle for some stupid story about Peter in High school all over again. Way to go Sony, two thumbs down on you.

High school Spider-Man will be a disaster.

Aww man.. I was actually looking forward to Spiderman 4, but there just messing up. Why do part 4 with Spiderman in high school again. Just ruining the series even more. Im not interested if there changing the director and the cast. Doesnt make sense to me.

I agree with madmarvel..need to give this franchise a rest. Besides, there are other Marvel characters in the works..Iron Man, Hulk, Thor,Batman, X-Men..
It’s regretting selling out Marvel to Disney.

I think its a case of ageism as the execs didn’t like the choice of Vulture as the villain.

My guess is they want a Spider-man Twilight Harry Potter clone.

We’ll see who they find to direct and star before I have any real opinion on this ‘re-boot’

  15. betty • January 13, 2010 @ 3:56 PM

They should do the 4th spiderman and have the vulture and electro, I think it could work. I guess this also means we will never get to see the lizard either that sucks.

PS. demigod just to let you know batman is DC not Marvel.

I heard Maguire and Raimi were pushed out because sony thinks maguire is too old and they wanted a new director and a younger peter parker.
