Tom Cruise named in $250 million lawsuit

Tom CruiseAvid Scientologist Tom Cruise has been named in a $250 million federal lawsuit against the Church of Scientology.  New York Daily News reports that Peter Letterese, an ex-Scientologist, has filed a lawsuit alleging harassment from the church, naming Cruise as one of the prime culprits. Letterese labels the Mission Impossible star as Scientology head David Miscavage’s “right-hand man” and claims that the church is a “crime syndicate.” Among the harassment charges, Letterese wants the church dismantled under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law for allegedly using the business book “Effective Sales Closing Techniques” as part of its teachings. Cruise makes no secret of his connections to the church and has been outspoken about his beliefs (although Matt Lauer’s not lining up for another interview anytime soon) and has appeared in several promotional Scientology videos.

Well if this were the case most organized religions should be shut down too! I’m not a scientologist or really involved in anymore organized religion, but the guy left that sect, then good for him. If I left Catholicism, should I sue them for always pushing me to put $ in a collection plate, or telling me that their religion is the only way and the right way and telling me to spread the gospel ‘truth’? I know this is going to raise many issues and one topic you should never bring up is religion, but did this guy lose his shirt valued at $250mill in scientology? If he wants to accuse them of being mafia-like, then so be it, everyone is entitled to their freedom of expression, but is that accusation woth $250mill? Harassment charges?? I don’t enjoy seeing crosses all over and bible thumpers at my door or Jahovas witnesses promoting their works to me, should I sue them for a cool $10,000? No, I think that’s worth $100million…or better yet, say no thanks and walk away.

I think the smarter deal would to be to pursue criminal charges; rather than civil.

Civil just stings the wallet; criminal lasts forever. Now 250 Million?!

The person was brain dead to enter the cult in the first place and now wants to be rewarded for being brain dead again for naming a crazy “price” and making claims a sale book was used to “close him” into the deal? Might as well sue McDonalds for making you ‘hunger’ for a Big Mac by the way they “market” it to you when you are hungry?!?

Want to know what scientology teaches go to google videos and type in Scientology and the Clearwater Police (Clearwater is in Florida) after watching the video then decide for yourself if they are a religion.

Religion should be a personal matter
believe what you want, just don’t “force” it on others (including, don’t come knocking on my door preaching it or shoving flyers in my face)
    enough already

    WOODY –

i am certain if there is a lawsuit and its big enough to hit the press, then obviously they were doing SOMETHING MORE than handing out fliers and saying their religion was the only way. for anyone to have even taken the lawsuit seriously, it must have actually been considered harassment. and im sure if YOU were being harassed by psycho tom cruise about ANYTHING, you would probably expect AT LEAST 250 million lmfao, i know i would !

the press considers the Beckhams suing their nanny for hinting “they had martital issues” newsworthy. come on.

that was considered “Big enough to hit the press”

an actress with cellulite is big to the press

Well, this “scientology” stuff IS big enough to hit the press. I took Mary’s advice from Aug 4th, and googled “scientology and the Clearwater Police” and watched the 20 minute video…..CRAZY!

Jo-Anne, I agree with your 11:15am comment, I really hate it when the JW’s come knocking on my door at Christmas. One day I was at Tim Hortons and got scared out of my wits by a sudden knock on my window, right by my head, it was a little old lady, so I opened the window, & she shoved a JW flyer at me! I was so upset!
