Tony Curtis passes away at 85

Oscar-nominated actor Tony Curtis – perhaps best known for his comedic role in Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe – died last night at age 85 of a heart attack in his Las Vegas home, his actress daughter Jamie Lee Curtis’ representative has confirmed. The Hollywood legend was married six times  and had six children, though his son Nicholas died at age 23 of a heroin overdose. He is survived by his wife Jill Vandenberg Curtis, whom he wed in 1998. Curtis – who was born Bernard Schwartz in 1925 — received an Academy Award nomination in 1959 for his role in Stanley Kramer’s The Defiant Ones alongside Sidney Poitier. Curtis fathered Jamie Lee and Kelly Curtis with his first wife, actress Janet Leigh — to whom he was married from 1951 to 1962. In recent years his health had begun to deteriorate and in 2006 he nearly died of pneumonia, leading him to need a wheelchair and only able to walk short distances.  Though he never won an Oscar, Curtis received two Golden Globes in 1958 and 1961 for “World Film Favorite.”

Such a fine actor! When I was a lot younger than I am today, Tony Curtis, was one of my favorite actors. He could do drama, The Boston Stangler, or comedy, Some Like it Hot. He was fantastic to watch on the “Big Screen”. R.I.P. Mr. Tony Curtis. You were Loved by many and will be Missed by all who Loved you.
