Prince Harry announces next Invictus Games. Photo courtesy of Netherlands Ministerie van DefensiePrince Harry received tragic news on Wednesday (March 16, 2022) when the Invictus Games Foundation confirmed that a member of the Invictus Games family was killed while fighting for Ukraine.

Serhii Karaivan, who completed in the Invictus Games and Warrior Games for Team Ukraine, died on March 13th.

The news was posted on their website and on Twitter, where they wrote: “It is with regret that the Invictus Games Foundation can report that a member of the Ukrainian Invictus Games community has been confirmed as a fatality of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

On their site they wrote: “We know that many of the Invictus Games competitors, alongside the staff and team management, signed up to serve once again, many of whom already had injuries sustained in conflict with Russia since 2014.”

Prince Harry, who served in the British military for 10 years, set up the Invictus Games to support and inspire injured service people. The next games, which were originally scheduled for 2020 but were postponed due to the pandemic, will take place in April 2022 in The Hague.

Oksana Horbach, team manager for the Ukrainian Invictus Games team said in a statement that it was “tough to learn about Serhii’s death as the fighting continues. When we win, we will celebrate his life, talk about him, and his sense of humour, professionalism, patriotism and sports endeavours. And we will hug and cry and laugh because the memories of him bring joy and happiness. Please do not think of him as a martyr, he would not like it. Think of him as a celebrated Invictus Games community member, hero and defender of Ukrainian people.” ~Alexandra Heilbron

Who cares about Serhii Karaivan and his family, right? It is all about that parasite “prince”! Is he sad? Did he pout? Shed a tear? Oh, my, God… his feelings!
Whoever wrote this garbage should be ashamed of themselves.
The story is and SHOULD be about Serhii Karaivan and those who are dying, not about a posh, entitled junior like this guy Harry.

Why are they still calling him “Prince”. He abdicated his royal title of prince. He’s just Harry whatever now. Frankly, why are they still making news about him. He’s no longer of interest to anyone. Including his wife.

Not sure how to follow those first two commenters, they’ve obviously made all the intelligent points already. A moron calling the person who set up the games for the injured service men and women to participate in entitled, to entirely unwarranted comments about his wife from a loser.

I digress, all the best to Serhii’s family, friends and anyone who will miss him. Hope he fought like hell.

To be fair, T, a story about a soldier dying in Ukraine wouldn’t be on this site (which is about entertainment, it’s not a war news site) if it wasn’t for the Harry correlation. I actually want to say hats off to the writer, for finding an angle to bring us this news and remind us of the war and how horrific it is for Ukrainians. When we see a photo of a fallen soldier and learn something about him, it brings it home for those of us who aren’t over there or connected to the soldier. Serhii had an injury as a soldier prior to this but decided to stay to fight for his country. He’s a hero. I pray every day that Putin will be stopped sooner rather than later.

Totally agree with R. & Bob. Harry is a nobody — shouldn’t be writing articles about his feelings anymore than they’d be likely to write about mine or anybody else’s. There’s a WAR going on over there!!! Guess what — people get KILLED, surprise, surprise!!! Harry didn’t even know this guy personally — I’m just sure he shed so many tears over him. Harry was in the military — why the heck doesn’t he get on his combat fatigues & go help fight for Ukraine — right along side his imaginary Invictus buddies. I’m sure he’s never met any of them.

Out of this sad news , your take is to rant AND criticize because they are referring to Prince Harry with his title of “PRINCE”
Would it have been better if they quoted Prince Harry in tears????

    As well, a little FYI
Just because he “abdicated” does not mean he is no longer a prince.
He was born a royal, descends from royalty, from generations of Kings and Queens. He abdicated his place from the royal family not his birthright.

To Q – A royal that abdicate their Royal title is the act of renouncing & resigning from any formal office and title. As such, they are no longer called (in this case) “Prince” or assigned to the obligation that this title enforces.
And as history has shown countless of time, those born from a royal member does not give them the title of a Royal. Example: Alexandre Grimaldi-Castle is the 1st born son of Prince Albert of Monaco but he does not have the title prince or have any royal affiliation because he’s considered illegitimate when Prince Albert had an affair with a maid. Yet his father is the Prince of Monaco. Or when King Henry VIII had his 1st born son (who should have been Prince and given the title of King after his father passing) but the child had no title because he was illegitimate due to his mother who was King Henry VIII mistress. The person DNA does not give them a royal title
Prince Harry, may carry royal blood but when he abdicated his title he no longer has the right to carry that title or be called Prince.

It is a tragic story that is well rounded and informative.
The Invictus Games is probably the most noble cause that anyone in the royal family has founded.
It was created when Harry was still a prince and he is still involved in this most noble cause.
Anyone who knows anything about the Invictus games should see this more as a loss to the Invictus Games than it is about Harry. In fact, the story hardly mentions Harry except to say that he was informed of the tragic news and a brief history of the Games.
There are a lot of really hateful people commenting here. Pull your heads out of your collective backsides and see the story for what it is.
