John Travolta has been dropped from the movie Dallas, based on the TV series. He was cast as J.R. Ewing, but it’s rumored that the role is now being offered to Ben Stiller, because the film is being changed from a drama to a comedy. “John was given a nice seven-figure ‘gift’ to go away quietly,” a source told pagesix.com. “He also got five family members roles in the movie, and they aren’t going to be in it now, either.” A friend of Travolta commented, “He is not doing the movie. They’ve gone in a different direction than was originally intended. I don’t know about any ‘gift,’ and I don’t think the family member thing is correct.” The movie has gone through several upheavals, including last year when Shirley MacLaine, Luke Wilson, and Jennifer Lopez were dropped from the cast. Director Robert Luketic then walked away due to the casting changes and the budget was downsized from $65 million.
