Twilight Saga: New Moon makes history

The Twilight Saga: New Moon grossed $72.7 million on Friday, making it the biggest single opening day in Hollywood history. Over the weekend it earned $140.7 million (all figures U.S.) in North American ticket sales, beating out the original movie, Twilight, which sold $70 million in its first weekend. Only The Dark Knight at $158.4 million and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million) had bigger debuts, but both of those were on more screens: 4,366 and 4,252 respectively, compared to 4,024 for New MoonNew Moon has also earned the distinction of having the biggest November opening ever, overtaking $102.7 million set in 2005 by Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. ~Alexandra Heilbron
