Paddy Considine, who started out as an actor in films such as 24 Hour Party People, In America, Cinderella Man and Hot Fuzz, has stepped behind the camera for his first full length feature as a director. Tyrannosaur is the story of Joseph, an angry man who lives a life filled with violence. One day he meets Hannah, a gentle woman who works at a Christian charity store. They meet by chance, and Hannah sees past his violent ways to the pain he carries inside. They begin a tentative friendship and as he gets to know her, Joseph realizes Hannah’s existence isn’t as idyllic or peaceful as it first seemed. Tyrannosaur was released last year in Britain, where it received much acclaim, including an endorsement from GQ, which called it “The best British film of the year.” The Sunday Telegraph dubbed it “One of the most powerful films of 2011.” Currently playing in Toronto, we hope this film will get a wider release so all our readers will have the chance to see it.
