U.S. networks look to Canada for new shows

cnadian_flag.jpgAs the writers’ strike drags on in the States, TV producers are looking north for new series. NBC has won the rights to broadcast the new CTV drama series The Listener, which begins shooting April in Toronto. This is the second Canadian drama picked up by an American network — last week, it was announced that CBS has obtained rights to broadcast another CTV drama series, Flashpoint. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter states that CBS and ABC are in a bidding war to get the rights to the new CBC series The Border, while ABC Family wants to broadcast Sophie, also a CBC production.

Ah-ha-ha-ha! What a development this is! This reminds me of the SCTV epsiode in which a strike at SCTV leaves Guy Cabellero with no choice but to buy programming from the CBC. And what programming it is:

Canadian Gaffes & Practical Amusements-basically Candid Camera Canadian style.

Headline Challenge-just Front Page Challenge named diffrently

Garth And Gord And Fiona And Alice-just a different name for Goin’ Down The Road!

If they want, the Yanks can also get Hockey Night In Canada, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Red Green Show, Made In Canada, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Just For Laughs Corner Gas, and last but not least, Trailer Park Boys-they’ll enjoy them all!

    Don’t forget Corner Gas!!

    Corner Gas is the best!

  5. Arnold • February 4, 2008 @ 12:54 PM

Yeah, but the Beechcombers are my all time favorite. They’ve never been able to come close to that quality show ever since they took it off the air.

  7. Arnold • February 4, 2008 @ 4:24 PM

    Hi new Arnold,
You can be whomever you want to be. But if you want to be an Arnold don’t ever associate us with the BeachCombers.
I have a low enoug standard on this site and to tie me into that old rubbish will drive me to a 5110 with Britney and that Grays Anatomy guy.

Rick Mercers show about Americans would be good in US primetime.

and yes Da Kink and Train 48 give me Corner Gas! Give them to the americans.

    trailer park boys!!!!

“Sophie” stars that delectable Bailey’s girl – strong U.S. ratings could make her the next Julia Roberts.

Give them CANADIAN IDOL already! Ben Mulroney is even more nauseating than that Seacrest fellow.

Corner Gas and Trailer Park Boys are some of the best Canadian shows we’ve ever had! They are so funny! Hey, any of you guys watch Little Mosque on the Prarie? I did and hated it, but it seems to be getting rave reviews.

  14. Arnold • February 5, 2008 @ 7:19 PM

Little Mosque is good but not nearly as good as Road to Avonlea!

  15. tributegirl • February 6, 2008 @ 11:41 AM

Um, Beachcombers? How old are you guys? That show has been off the air for an extremely long time!
Trailor Park Boys are fantastic, I love that show, but Corner Gas is just as good and it’s something I can watch with my kids.

  16. Nancy • February 6, 2008 @ 12:58 PM

I don’t really watch Corner Gas but, I love watching Trailer Park Boys…..Bubbles is so funny! I wish I had glasses like his. Ha ha ha ha ha!

My sister went to a big party in Halifax once, it was an Aids fundraiser or something, and the TPB were there, they were out of character, but she said they were really cool.
So I asked earlier about Little Mosque, has anyone found that funny? I haven’t liked it at all, I won’t watch it anymore, but it keeps getting big reviews.
For U.S. shows, Everybody Loves Raymond is hilarious! Wish it was still running.

They should look at this show. The Ramsay Downholers. http://www.downholers.com It’s hockey, sure. But, the material is so “Rescue Me”.

american tv has been suffering for a while now. about time they used what remains of their collective brain cell to realize we have all the intelligence, wit and humour up here!

They already have trailer park boys, they’ve had it for years on BBC America. Those who have seen it before the second movie came out were disappointed with all of the different characters. For instance, they had Ellen Page play Ricky’s daughter, Trinity. Corner Gas is just another way to further the Canadian Stereotype just like the MacKenzie Bros. Funny when you’re a kid, but embarrasingly shameful when you grow up…..
