Val Kilmer accused of being a deadbeat dad after failing to pay child support

Val Kilmer, 51, has to appear in court after being accused by his ex-wife, actress Joanne Whalley, of falling behind in his child support payments. Whalley and Kilmer were married in 1988 but split in 1995 when she made a surprise visit to see him on the set of Batman Forever and found him having an affair with Drew Barrymore. The couple share two children, Mercedes, 19, and Jack, 16. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Kilmer is supposed to pay $27,500 a month for child support. Kilmer, who was at the height of his stardom in the 1990s, has found it more difficult to find parts as he gained an excessive amount of weight, essentially putting him out of the running for the romantic lead roles he’d been playing. Whalley has obtained a lien against his New Mexico ranch until he can bring the payments up to date. This isn’t the first time Kilmer has gotten behind in the payments — in 2007, Whalley also had to take legal action in an effort to get him to pay up.
