Vantage Point, about an assassination attempt on the President, debuted in the top spot at the weekend box office, grossing $24 million (all figures US). Starring Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox, it gives viewers different birds eye views into solving the mystery of whodunnit. It was the only new release to open in the top five — Last week’s movies all moved down a spot respectively: Jumper slipped from first place with $12.7 million, while The Spiderwick Chronicles moved to third, close behind with $12.6 million. Step Up 2 the Streets wound up in fourth with $9.8 million, while Fool’s Gold rounded out the top five with $6.3 million.
Step Up 2 is still the film to beat.
I bet you if the assasination attempt was succesful this movie would have grossed $150 million.
“Nancy Drew” was more compelling.
Grossing $24 million nowadays is nothing to brag about on an opening weekend.
I was looking forward to seeing this movie, but after reading the bad reviews it got, I rather wait and see it on the Movie Network in couple of months.
The producers are cringing. That amount probably didn’t even cover the salaries of the “stars”, let alone the rest of the staff and production costs.
Can anyone else smell the stink from this bomb?
