The second season of HBO’s VEEP starring Emmy Award winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus was just as funny and well done as season one. In the second season Vice President Selina Meyer is off to a rocky start when her party does poorly during the midterm elections. A man from her past returns and Selina is given responsibility for foreign relations. A hostage crisis in Uzbekistan, the personal problems with family and staff and the Federal Government shut down are just a few of the things we see Selina and her team struggle with throughout the season.
I have to admit the writing is very well done and pretty funny. Shows centered around politics often have a serious tone but VEEP manages to bring out the lighter side. Things do tend to move fast in this show so it’s important to pay attention. What I like about VEEP is the overall premise of following the Vice President’s day-to-day life instead of just focusing on The President. This show is worth watching and you can catch on fairly quickly as to what went on in season one, if you didn’t see it.
The extra content on the Blu-ray is not as extensive as other HBO shows such as Game of Thrones, but includes four audio commentaries with the cast and crew and deleted scenes. ~Tarah Bleier
