Vince Vaughn in lead for The Rockford Files film

Universal Pictures is trying to resurrect the popular 70’s television crime drama, The Rockford Files, for the big screen and they’ve already got an idea of who they want in the lead role of private investigator Jim Rockford, originally played by James Garner. The studio is reportedly trying to secure Vince Vaughn, who will also produce the film under his company, Wild West Picture Show Productions. No plot details have been released about the film yet, like whether it will still be set in the 70s or be more of a modern-day remake. We also don’t know if the film will lean on the side of comedy — as that seems to be Vaughn’s style of late — or be drama/action. According to Deadline however, David Levien and Brian Koppelman, the duo who co-wrote Rounders and Ocean’s Thirteen, have been brought in to pen the script.

Vince Vaughan bares a slight resemblance to James Garner, but a bit chubbier

NOOOOOOOO…James Garner was amazing. Vince Vaughn is a sad excuse of an actor and he’s totally gonna butcher it. Wrong move Universal

Garner was the best..the original usually is. I’d watch with Vaughn.
