Wachowski brothers asked to direct Superman

superman1.jpgBrothers Andy and Larry Wachowski, the creative geniuses behind the highly successful Matrix trilogy, have been offered the chance to direct the next Superman movie, according to Ain’t It Cool News. James McTeigue, who often collaborates with the Wachowskis, says that Warner Bros. approached them about helming the superhero franchise after Bryan Singer, who directed Superman Returns, turned down the chance to do a second Superman movie. McTeigue, who has worked with the Matrix directors on six movies, says the brothers, whose last movie, Speed Racer, bombed at the box office, are considering the offer, but first they’re working on a film adaptation of the popular comic book Plastic Man.

This will be awesome, we can see super man, anime style. Lots of bullet time, with cool sequences and crazy action/villain(s). I wonder if Hugo Weaving and Keannu Reeves will be in it.

Whoever directs the next Superman they MUST GET RID OF LEX LUTHOR – don’ these people know there are other more dangerous and far more interesting villains in the Superman universe than Lex Luthor? Show a little imagination, please.

Actually Chocolate, Lex Luthor is one of Supermans most dangerous foes.

With just his intellect he has time and time again almost killed Superman.

Plus Lex Luthor is a good villian to have in a movie since even non-comic readers know him.

They can’t put in Supermans other dangerous foes as theres no way to translate the HUGE backstory of these characters onto the big screen.

How could they do Doomsday, Superboy Prime or Cyborg in a movie without
    a) Having the comic fans kill them for ruining the characters
    b) Losing 80% of the people that see the movie cause they don’t understand the villian.

Now that being said I do agree that Lex Luthor should not be in the next movie. But who could they do?

How about Braniac? Even most non comic book people know who he is and I’d be curious to see how they’d bring him to life on the big screen. Not to mention it would bring out more of Superman’s history.

I agree, Lex Luthor has been done to death! Its easy to understand why a more commonly known and classic Villain character is chosen but Filmmakers had no problem introducing us to lesser known villains like Two-Face and Scarecrow (Batman) or more modern characters like Sandman and Venom (Spiderman)…I can’t wait to see Lex and Lana disappear for good (on Smallville), so please come up with something more original for the future Superman film(s)!?!

I agree chocolate thunder and dave. They have to pullout all the stops if they want people to support the man of steele. What they should do is watch the animated Superman/Doomsday movie that was well done. Brainiac would be interesting as well, thanks Aline de Chevigny. All we have to do now is wait for them to get cracking already.

    Regarding the new Superman movie……
why not let the writers come up with a new villain….who says that you have to use a villain from the comic books? Something / someone totally new & original would be refreshing….plus the non-mythos person could relate
