WE Day events to feature star-studded lineup

WE, a movement designed to bring people together with the aim of shifting focus from “me” to “we,” is gearing up for a big day set to feature even bigger talent.

WE Day Toronto will take place today at the city’s Air Canada Centre. According to WE’s official site, the “unparalleled event” unites “world-renowned speakers, A-list performers, and tens of thousands of youth to celebrate a year of action that transformed communities and changed live.”

The long list of notable names scheduled to take part in the event includes Zendaya, Jason Derulo, Macklemore, Gord Downie (of The Tragically Hip), Hedley, Jacob Tremblay, Paula Abdul, Margaret Trudeau, Chris Hadfield, Mia Farrow, Bridget Mendler, Bailee Madison, Degrassi stars Ana Golja and Richard Walters, the Barenaked Ladies, Nelly Furtado and Canadian swimmer Penny Oleksiak, who became the country’s most successful athlete at a single summer Olympic Games by winning four medals in Rio this year.

Approximately 20,000 students from roughly 1,000 schools are expected to attend today’s event at the Air Canada Centre. The students will be taught about the tools necessary to affect change in their local and global communities.

WE Day was launched by Canadian brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger and has expanded from its Toronto roots to now feature similar shows around Canada and even internationally.

Performers for the upcoming shows may differ. For more information, check the WE Day site by clicking here.
