Top celebs such as Scarlett Johansson, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley tell us what they would like to see in their Christmas stockings this year
—by Max Hardy & Joan Krzys

Scarlett Johansson: “I love reading classic literature. Among my favourites are Crime and Punishment, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. So another really good book would make my Christmas.”

Orlando Bloom: “Something for my dog Sidi would be nice. He has been my constant companion since I spotted him in a Moroccan street market six years ago during the filming of Kingdom of Heaven. He was homeless and I adopted him.”

Justin Timberlake: “I am a golf fanatic. My handicap is six and I play 18 holes a couple of times a week. In fact, I own my own golf course near Memphis and recently I converted one of the bigger rooms in my house into a miniature green so I can practise. Anything to do with golf – especially balls – would be most welcome.”

Quentin Tarantino: “I collect old board games that feature TV shows. I have I Dream Of Jeannie, The Dukes of Hazzard, The A-Team and many others. So being given a game I haven’t got would be very acceptable.”

Reese Witherspoon: “I am known as the ‘Chicken Lady’ because the chickens on my Californian ranch lay so many eggs that I’ve started to give them away to friends and neighbours. Last year, I wanted a chicken coop for Christmas and I got one. This year, it will be a proper stable for my young daughter’s horse.”

Will Smith: “All I want for Christmas is warm sunshine. That’s what I have wanted for the past few Christmases, but Jada [wife Jada Pinkett Smith] and our two children prefer a White Christmas. At Christmas time we go to snow. And by ‘we’ I mean Jada, likes to go to snow. I’d much rather be in Jamaica. But Jada has wonderful childhood memories of snow, so we try to find wherever there’s the most snow, and she actually spends weeks on-line figuring out where the most snow is, and that’s where we end up going. This year will be no exception.”

Keira Knightley: “I am not the best cook in the world, that’s for sure. In fact, I am rather hopeless. I have tried but I really am hopeless. I can cook maybe one dish but even then, if you ate it, you’d probably end up with food poisoning. Recently, a friend was teaching me how to make an eggplant bake. I brought it out of the oven in this beautiful bowl – and dropped it. It smashed all over the kitchen, and I burst into tears. Which is why I will ask Santa to bring me some easy-to-understand cook books.”

Freddie Prinze Jr.: “I love soccer and am an avid Arsenal supporter. Whenever I am in England I try to get to watch them. I was once given a guided tour around their old Highbury ground before they moved to the Emerates Stadium, and given a shirt with ‘Prinze’ on the back. Something to do with the Gunners would be nice: maybe a book by a player or an important programme.”

Jamie Lee Curtis: “I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer and I have collected hundred of old black and white prints, mostly about American history. I am also interested in the work of some of the master contemporary photographers. If anyone can add to my collection, I would be over the moon.”

David Beckham: “I learned to cook when I was 17 and I love getting meals for the family. Victoria enjoys my grilled prawns or lobster and fresh vegetables. And for the children and me it’s pasta with fresh tomato sauce and olives. My friend Gordon Ramsay has even offered to help improve my cooking skills. So anything for the kitchen would be great: a cookbook or pots or pans.”

Bette Midler: “Gardening is my big hobby. So if I get anything at all to do with my garden, I shall be delighted. I recently founded a group called the New York Restoration Project, to help revitalise neglected parks and gardens, and because we recently saved more than 100 community gardens in the neighbourhood, I received an award from the Garden Writers Association of America.”
