What to watch at home – new releases August 23 to 29

Still From Vacation Friends (2021)

As summer winds down, home streamers continue to perform as hot new releases like Vacation Friends, He’s All That, and more come to a living room near you this week. Read on for more information on what to watch at home! ~Cassandra Coleman

Vacation Friends: Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and Emily (Yvonne Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hagner) while on vacation in Mexico. Letting go of their sensibilities, the typically level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.”  Months after getting home, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn’t always stay on vacation. Coming to Disney+ August 27.

He’s All That: Reimagining the plot of teen classic She’s All That, this contemporary take follows influencer Padgett Sawyer (Addison Rae) as she tries to transform Cameron Kweller (Tanner Buchanan), the school’s biggest loser, into prom king. The challenge proves to be no easy feat and Padgett enlists the help of her best friends to give Cameron a makeover. Catch it on Netflix starting August 27.

Lansky: When retired gangster Meyer Lansky (Harvey Keitel) learns he is terminal, he hires a writer (Sam Worthington) in need of money to author a book about his life — one ridden with crime and notoriety. For decades, authorities have been trying to locate Lansky’s alleged nine-figure fortune. With the FBI getting their last chance to capture the aging gangster, Lansky reveals the untold truth about his life as the infamous boss of Murder Inc. and the National Crime Syndicate. Coming to DVD/Blu-ray August 24.

Cruella: In 1970s London, Estella (Emma Stone) aims to leave her mark on the fashion world by befriending a pair of thieves who share her predilection for mischief. With their help and her creativity and wit, Estella catches the eye of fashion legend Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson). As the Baroness takes Estella under her wing, their relationship sends Estella down a dark path to embrace her cruel and wicked side, transforming her into the revenge-bent Cruella de Vil.
