Chris Pratt in The Tomorrow War

With July comes a slew of new movies and television series for at-home viewing. Check out the new releases coming to your screens this week, including Prime Video’s The Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt, Body Brokers on DVD/Blu-ray/Digital/VOD and Sophie: A Murder in West Cork on Netflix. ~Cassandra Coleman

The Tomorrow War:  The human race is in danger of being wiped off the face of the Earth in 2051. When time travelers come to the present to deliver the sinister news that mankind is losing a global war against a murderous alien species, they recruit an army of soldiers and civilians to be transported to the future, to fight the catastrophic threat. Dan Forester (Chris Pratt), a high school teacher and family man, is one of the enlisted. Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) to alter the course of the future by rewriting the fate of the planet. Available on Prime Video July 2.

Body Brokers: Utah (Jack Kilmer) and Opal (Alice Englert) are junkies living on the streets of Ohio until a seemingly chance encounter with a mysterious man brings them to Los Angeles for treatment. As Utah finds sobriety, he soon learns that the rehab center is not about helping people — it’s merely a cover for a multi-billion dollar fraud operation that enlists addicts to recruit other addicts. Available June 29 on DVD/Blu-ray/Digital/VOD.

Sophie: A Murder in West Cork: For true crime lovers, Netflix is releasing a three-part docuseries on the 1996 murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in West Cork, Ireland — a crime that triggered one of the biggest murder investigations in the nation’s history. Focusing on an event that became a national obsession, the series will unravel the circumstances of Sophie’s death 24 years later, bringing together the views of her family with Ian Bailey, the man at the center of the investigation. Available on Netflix June 30.
