William Shatner had some semi-harsh words for the recently-named Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, also the director of the Star Trek films. When asked if he was happy with the director taking over both sci-fi franchises, Shatner replied calmly, “No, he’s being a pig.” The actor, who played Captain Kirk in the original TV series Star Trek, as well as in seven of the films, also said, “He’s probably the most talented director of that ilk that we have, but he’s gone too far this time,” and added, “not employing me in either one of them is just foolhardy.”
In a 2008 interview with AMC, Abrams had this to say about Shatner: “We actually had written a scene with him in it that was a flashback kind of thing, but the truth is, it didn’t quite feel right. The bigger thing was that he was very vocal that he didn’t want to do a cameo. We tried desperately to put him in the movie, but he was making it very clear that he wanted the movie to focus on him significantly, which, frankly, he deserves.”
Watch the video below of Shatner’s response to Abrams directing Star Wars.

Shatner’s hilarious 🙂
Oh myyyyyyyyy!!!
I think Bill was obviously joking.
Shatner made the character of Kirk popular in the first place.
He should be in the movies as long as he is able. I’m not going to see these movies in theaters as long as Shatner is missing.
Abrams is an idiot. Maybe not at pig, but certainly an idiot.
Please do not let Shatner anywhere near the new Star Trek movies….he’s yucky.
Wasn’t he implicated in his wife’s drowning?
Firstly, Janice-That was another actor and I can not think of his name.
Shatner just seems way too egotistical. You go J.J.
Pretty sure Shatner was implicated in his wifes death. But he is Star Trek! If Leonard Nimoy can appear in the movie, why cant Shatner? How can it not ‘feel right’ to have Shatner in it? And it wouldn’t be a flashback, it’d be a flash forward non? But either way, get him in the franchise! I think it’s important since all the tv series and next gen movies did end up having surviving stars in them at some point. Get the original Uhura in too. Let the new generation see them before it’s too late!
Shatner is hilarious and should be in any Star Trek movies as he is still willing able and very talented.
Same for any other original cast members (still alive) or a voice from the past could be used in ghost scenes. The younger crowd loves zombies.!!
He’s joking. Dry as it is.
I know this is off topic but since it’s been brought up here… Shatner was never accused of murder. That actors name is Robert Wagner…. gosh people read something other than tabloids please, thank you.
J.J. doesn’t put Shatner in, as Shatner didn’t want to do a cameo. But there wasn’t a whole lot of room to give him a significant part, either, as it was implausible enough for Old Spock to be in there.
Why the heck would Old Kirk be in there, too?
Shatner COULDN’T be in it. Geeze. Kirk died in Star Trek Generations, which was before Spoke travelled back in time. Are they supposed to be necromancers now?
LOL
Didn’t Shatner’s Kirk die in the older Star Trek movies? You’re dead, bro.
What a stuck up loser.
Actually Shat’s third wife Nerine did drown in their pool. She had a big alcohol problem and their marriage was rocky. She’d just spent a lot of time a Betty Ford Clinic, but looks like it didn’t work. Died Aug. 9th, 1999.
Dalyce is perfectly correct. When Nerine Shatner drowned in their pool, Shat was looked at, since the marriage was iffy.
Robert Wagner has been bandied about as a suspect in hie then-wife Natalie Wood’s death.
Comments about reading tabloids when the asserions are correct is unwarranted.
Come on now nerds and lesser nerds of the intertron world. The man is a comic first and foremost, as this piece clearly shows. Calm down and enjoy a nice tardis sandwich now.
HAHAHA!
Shatner is great!
Come on, people, he is OBVIOUSLY joking!
He is using a standard deadpan humour (a la Leslie Nielsen), which means that he is joking, but stays deadly serious while doing that. 😀
I dont think Shatner should be in any A list movie of any kind, yes he was in the original Star Trek but so what he sucked as an actor then and still does, besides that he is egomaniacal and wants to always be on the spotlight. So good on you JJ for not letting this PIG (SHATNER) be in any of these movies.
Shatner was clearly kidding around. His delivery is very dry, so it’s easy to miss, but yeah, he’s joking.
I got it. Janice (I hope you are reading this) The actors name is Robert Blake. The evidence they had seemed like he could have definitely killed his wife.
I happen to like William Shatner as an actor. As a person? Not so much.
The quote above is taken out of context in order to get attention. He’s joking. He’s saying that Abrams is a pig for being at the helm of the two biggest sci-fi franchises and he says it in a joking manner. People need to get over it and stop trying to create strife where there isn’t any.
As to the issues with actors and the sudden deaths of their wives, unless someone is charged and there is significant evidence they should have been, leave it be.
Since the video has been deleted, there will be no further comments on it.
Shatner should have been in the Star Trek reboot. Period.
