X Factor child singer collapses onstage

By Alexandra Heilbron on December 9, 2011 | 14 Comments

During last night’s X Factor, it was revealed that the bottom two contestants were Marcus Canty and 13-year-old Rachel Crow. This marked Marcus’ third time in the bottom two, but the first time for Rachel. The bottom two contestants each week have a sing off for the judges, who then vote on which should go home. With one vote from L.A. Reid to send Rachel home, and two votes from Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell to send Marcus home, Nicole Scherzinger didn’t want the decision left to her, so she chose Rachel in order to put the vote to a deadlock, in which the contestant with the actual lower amount of votes from the at-home audience is sent home. When host Steve Jones read out Rachel’s name as the contestant with the lowest number of votes, Rachel’s eyes widened in shock and then she fell to her knees and began sobbing. Simon and her mother rushed to the stage to console her and when Rachel got to her feet, she turned to her mother and said, “Mommy, you promised me!” Rachel later told E!News that she said, “You promise it’ll be OK? You promise?” Vote in our poll about whether this much pressure should be put on children and watch the video below to see the dramatic event:

America got it wrong. Perhaps LA Reid talking about how Hollywood flocking aroung Rachel made fans complacent but I must say they did not vote and got it wrong. The save me songs are a waste if they are not used for what they are there for. I am definately a fan of Rachel Crow and hope she does well and goes on to fulfill her dreams.

Nicole should be fired – she’s a judge & as a judge it’s her duty to do her job properly which in this case she didn’t – she copped out. Those tears were fake and in my opinion it should of been Josh or Chris who went home – both Rachel & Chris blew the others away. I really would of like to have seen Steve’s card with the person name who was going home. Very unprofessional of Nicole – if you can’t do the job you don’t belong there.

Rachel will do great regardless but Nicole didn’t want her to be the winner & claim the $ 5,000,000.

These kids cannot handle this pressure. the voting and does America like me attitude. And 5million. It’s like Toddlers and Tieras, where moms freak out to get their kids dressed up and parade them around and promise them the world. It’s wayyyy too much competition for kids.

I applaud Nicole for leaving it up to the public. That’s how it should be every week, not the judges voting their favourites through. Rachel didn’t get enough votes. End of story. Marcus is extremely talented and shows enormous dignity and class despite being in the bottom three. If I was a judge, I would’ve sent Rachel home and not Marcus. And to the person who says Josh should’ve been sent home, no way! He’s has so much soul. He’s the best singer on the show. It’s unfortunate he has Nicole as his mentor though, because she keeps picking lousy songs that don’t suit him but thankfully he sometimes gets a song that complements his amazing voice and people can hear how good he is.

Yes Josh should of gone home – he was very pitchy & that’s all he can sing is soul where as Rachel & Marcus can do different gendra’s of music – the Rihanna song he tried to make it as his home wasn’t that great – it sounded great because of the beat of the song – take that out & what do you got cat’s being strung.

Whatever the case maybe Nicole didn’t do her job, yes Rachel may have gone a little over the top with the crying routine but hey that’s why it’s called show business & that what the judge’s are aiming for – ratings. As for the home viewers they didn’t get it right either – I would’ve sent Chris home for the second song he sang which was his own composition was a one liner being repeated over & over & over again – I too can be a great singer if I just had one line of a song to sing over & over again & to keep the tempo wouldn’t of been difficult to keep either.

She’s only 13 she has all the time in the world to master her talent

I feel so bad for her. I only watched 1 episode of X factor and it was her audition, and let me tell you it blew me away. I dont know who marcus is, but when I read that he was in the bottom 3 3 times already, my mind was made up. He should have went home. Even if it was Americas choice

what did you expect a 13yr old to do of course she was devastated when she found out people voted for the older more experienced singers when she gets to adulthood she will probably blow them away

I think the key here is are the words “you promiced me” Why on earth did mom PROMICE anything?!?!?!?

  10. Chris • December 9, 2011 @ 11:21 PM

No matter what you think of it, the fact of the matter is its horrible to see a kid’s dreams crushed like that. But she will soon realize it’s only the beginning for her.

Oliva – I heard her say that to. I feel the exact same way as you do.
Rosanne – It was obvious to me that Nicole’s tears were genuine. I think she realized awhile after that she made a mistake and should have sent Marcus home.
When I just saw Rachel Crow sing for the 1st(the video above) her voice was So Dynamic and Phenomenal to me!!! It just blew me away!! I don’t watch X-Factor but saw it for about 5 min.’s once. I think I’ll watch the rest of it.

I did NOT like Marcus’s singing much at all. He was swinging his arm too much. He sang sort of like a monotone. He didn’t put very much feeling in his singing at all. Too contradict what I said above; I just went to YouTube and heard Rachel’s ‘I’d rather be blind’ and I wasn’t greatly impressed BUT I heard in her voice something that vastly set her apart from Marcus’s singing. It was amazing! Also she put an Impressive amount of Feeling into her song and looked very genuine.

Yes, I think Nicole should be fired Because it was plain to see that Rachel’s singing was somewhat better than Marcus’s singing. I mean really!! Wasn’t that enough to send Marcus home — him being on the bottom 3 Three times plus his lack singing in the sing off. Judges should be hired not just because they can sing or they have a degree or other glittery things But Because they have a knack for knowing Who Can sing and who Can’t. Rachel should have stayed!

Marcus is a great singer, performer and entertainer. I love Rachel but if I was in the position of Nicole I would have voted Rachel off so that Marcus joins the top 4. Marcus entertains me and my friends a lot more than the others. He of course did not have a story to tell that would make people vote for him. Marcus is great and it is so unfair some people are trying to make him feel piece of shit. I will buy his music and the clubs will play it. Love you Marcus and all the contestants who worked hard. And don’t take this personally when a contestant you favored is going home. It is a show. I felt for Astro when he left because he was super talented and a great entertainer but I moved on to my next favorite. Leave Nicole alone!

Haha! That is what she deserves! This makes me laugh, stupid little girl.

simon is such a big sweetheart when the time calls for it. im happy to see that he went up to console the girl after she broke down. her mother shouldnt have made her promises for things that were out of her control in the first place. this was a very emotional scene and i was surprised at the judge crying about it, it was her choice, if she didnt want this girl to go home she should have said so instead of leaving it up to the audience.
