YouTube adds ‘Blur All Faces’ tool

YouTube is quickly becoming the go-to place for everything from DIY videos to current events. Because of this, they’ve added a ‘Blur All Faces’ tool, and the ability to preview this effect on your video before adding it to their site. Policy associate Amanda Conway said that YouTube has added this feature because: “As citizens continue to play a critical role in supplying news and human rights footage from around the world, YouTube is committed to creating even better tools to help them.” For those who intend to use the tool in this way, it is an amazing upgrade to the site, giving users the ability to upload videos without unintentionally embarrassing or broadcasting others. One downside though, is that it can also serve as a way to cover up one’s identity if they wish to upload a video that contains illegal or distasteful content. Like all technology there will likely be some who choose to abuse this new tool, but hopefully, the vast majority will use it for the public’s benefit, as the creators intended. ~Morgan Bates
